I know there is some threads on the structural boots but was wondering if anyone has both structural and zip-up duty boots. I currently have 14'' structural boots and the technical series zip-up boots. I wear my zip-up all the time on shift, for medical calls and around the hall and structural boots maybe an hour a month. Both are in size 10 and it seems as if the structural boots fit so much better. The zip-ups seem lose and sloppy, my heel is never really "locked in" like on the structural boots.
Anyone else notice this with these boots?

I feel the same as you.
We have the technical ones issued at work for Technical Rescue Team members. I don't like them. I took the zip-up option out very early on as they make the boot fit way to sloppy. I still can't get decent support even without the zippers.
I just started wearing the Globe Structural zip-ups and love them. They are way better than sloppy rubber boots. I have no experience with the Tech Rescue boots, but at my former place of employment we were issued Pro-Warrington Model 6066 USAR boots and they were AMAZING! They were probably the best pair of boots I ever wore. The only downside to them was that the vibram sole was slippery when it was freezing out. Not so good on icy surfaces.

This has been discussed in other posts, but to re-cap...it has to do with the cement contruction. The Globe boots are made this way, like your running shoe (moulded) and; although they feel great from the get-go, they lose their shape and support very quickly. (Ever notice how often you have to keep tightening your laces on your runners?)
The ProWarringtons have the Goodyear welt construction whick take a longer "break-in" period but hold their shape better in the long term.
Like the man says....you can pay me now or pay me later.

It seems there are more and more reports of nail punctures of boots recently- Does anybody know what boots Belleville is wearing? Can anyone tell me about this new non-steel puncture resistant plate in thorogood boots? Who else uses it? Advantages/disadvantages?

I heard that Belleville was in the new Globe boots....I have no evidence to prove fact or fiction...only what I heard from another Chief.

Yes , Belleville's fulltime stations are in the new Globe boots. And they are extemely well liked, they feel almost like running shoes when worn, and after almost 2 years of wearing them they still fit great. they do not seem to get sloppy with age.

I wish mine would last 2 years. The first pair lasted a year when a bunch of the stiching where it bends near the laces. Second pair has done the same thing after 9 months so I sent them back again and going for pair #3.

I currently have a pair of STC Marshal Pull-pn Structural Boots and Haix Airpower X1 that I wear as station boots, medical calls, etc. I used to have a pair of Haix Structural Zip-ups as well.
I have found that the Haix Airpower's work well in all typs of conditions and I find that they fit my feet really well. They have pretty good traction in snow and ice (Deal with it lots), are relatively warm and waterproof. Great station/EMS boots.
My STC's are very comfortable and I am really pleased with their performance in snow an ice (much better than my old Hiax Structural boots). I also find it much easier to pull them on rather than having to zip them up.
My wear pattern is similar to you as I am normaly in station boots and in my structural boots probably 12 hour a month.
Hope that helps,

I gotta agree with North of 60, I wore Danner Acadia and Danner Striker lace up duty boots for the past 4 years and loved them, but recent job changes mean I'm constantly in and out of my boots all day now. I absolutely HATED any zip-up I ever tried; they were either loose enough to get on quickly, but offered no support, or were a good fit but took 10 minutes to wrestle in to. The Haix Airpower X1 zip-up is great. It fits better than any of the cheap lace-ups I've worn (Original Swat, Viper, Magnum) and is still fast and easy to get into. If you find you have high arches which make zip-ups a problem, take a look at the Haix. They don't "fit like a running shoe" like Globes' ads will try to tell you, but pretty damn good for a CSA cert'd zip-up work boot.

I just recently bought a pair of Globe Structural boots and love them, the only thing is im still trying to figure out the right insole to get the perfect fit with out being to squishy inside. And they are alittle more of a pain to get off then my old rubber boots and fold my pants down. But wearing them is very nice. i dont regret the price tag at all.

So what is the difference between the Haix X1 and R2?

I think they're mostly cosmetic differences. I like the protective toe cap on the X1 and the fact that they're all black, without any goofy reflectors on them. I think they have a different sole too, but they're basically both CSA/UL cert'd zip-up safety boots.

Well my Haix boots got a hole in them so its time for some new boots. I know some guys that have Globe boots and I was ready to order some and then someone told me that they are not CSA approved. I found that hard to believe but thought I should find out before I spend the money so can someone confirm for me if they are CSA approved?

As long as it follows the NFPA guidelines you should be fine....

If you aren't happy with the Haix, why get the Haix knock-off? Look at the Black Diamond X2 boot if you're not happy with the Haix. If you ARE happy with them, did you look into having them repaired?

I wouldnt say I was unhappy with the Haix boots over the couple years I had them. But I was getting tired of replacing laces and not having it be tight around my foot. I couldnt find the tight around the foot but easy to get on line.
I know a few people with Globe and they have nothing bad to say about them. I was training with a guy from a city dept who said they give their guys the option and no one picks Haix over globe. I tried on my friends Globe boots and they were a size too big and still seemed more snug around my heel and foot then my Haix did.
