What colour are the trucks in your department?

In Edmonton they were all yellow with a red stripe, in 96 we got 4 white ones with a red stripe ( 2 Quints, 2 Rescues), in 2003/04 the cheif ordered new trucks and they are going back to red they have a white stripe. ( 12 Pumps, 2 Quints)

Here in the Greater Victoria area which has a combination of colour schemes..There are several Career and Volly Dept's. The most common colour is white cab over red.
Victoria Fire is White over yellow.. 2 departments ( Sidney and View Royal) are going to black cab over red and one dept is still solid white?? Very nice rigs in Colwood except the colour white?

Our trucks are white with a band of Omaha Orange outlined with blue Scotchlite. Colour scheme came about when we were purchasing our 1985 pumper. OFC was dead against red at the time, and we said there will be no slime lime in our hall. So we chose white. Now as new units come on board, we have stuck with our scheme. It makes, IMHO, for a sharp looking truck.

White is actually not an uncommon colour for fire apparatus.
When I gt it all figured out, amd it warms up a little, I'll post some pics.

I guess with a white truck in Manitoba during the winter months, you'd better leave the lights on at all times to see where the hell you parked it. :D

Paint it whatever colour you want. Lights on or off. Some dumbass is gonna run into it any way. Do ambulances get hit more often than firetrucks? White's easier to keep clean than red is as a bonus. Our 1971 POS Thibault is red and it's a witch to keep clean. Not gonna miss it one bit when it's gone (2006).

In B.C. we're still a "Provincal Service". We have about 400 Ambulances. Most of which are all Crestline NuEra Style Ambulances. We do have several small incidents on almost a weekly basis in B.C.. Especially in the Greater Vancouver area. As far as getting struck from behind...I have'nt heard of that happening too often.
Up until just recently we only had 3 smallish warning lights on the back of the rigs. "red ,white and Amber" whelen lights. We now have Tomar lightbars front and back. With a combination of led halogen and strobe lightheads. Our Ambulances are all white with a red stripe running front to back and side to side. The side red stripe is on an angle.. A wide white refective stripe circles the box. All the blue lettering is also reflective. But most of the general public only looks about 2 car lenghths (or less) in front of them when they drive...So they still don't see us!

I'll kill two birds with one stone here.

Colin 911 it wasn't too long ago that Brampton trucks were yellow. It was Chief Clarke(ret) that fought that one at council. He wanted to paint the existing trucks and any new ones were ordered red.His main argument was red trucks make the men feel better psycologically, because fire trucks are always thought of being red.

DFCSmash, white ambulances get hit just as much as white fire trucks, they just crumple easier.I was told many years ago that white is supposed to allow higher visibility. This was determined by some conehead in the states, thats also why alot of PDs changed thier cars over to white as well.

P.S our trucks are red.

flashover, I was in Sherbrooke in September and I could'nt believe my eyes when this camoflauge( I think thats how you spell it) Fire truck came racing around the corner. Apparently they are in the same dispute. I think that there are other ways to get your point across than to paint a million dollar truck.

Although I am a traditionalist and prefer red, we use white with our own decal package design. It grows on you. It's slightly modified for each apparatus.

If ever you guys go into a magazine store, look for the Fire Apparatus Journal... lots of nice and unusual rigs..... one that really stood out for me, and i believe code3 made a model of it, was a 2005 mid mount ladder tower (American LaFrance) for Tarrytown.... a nice blue and silver scheme.

White over Red here. For all the Yellow trucked departments out there, just leave your trucks out in the sun for while, they will ripen up to a nice shiny red someday.

Newest engine is white over red. All others are red. Was in Florida this spring and Osceola County (south of Orange County) has some pretty sharp trucks as well...they sound even sweeter (we stayed about a mile from Stn 42 - 2800 alarms/yr)

Yes that is a nice looking truck. We stayed in condo in Kissimmee off I believe it was Interstate92. They ran all the time, the Federal Q and fire bell blaring. I loved it! Most American Dept's do a real nice job on their rigs. Not say Canada doesn't have some nice ones, but even Volly halls with a small budget do em up.

Montreal FD has a rainbow of colours in it's fleet :)

Thats mostly due to the municipal mergers which combined 27 different departments, so we got bright yellow, we got caterpillar yellow, we got every possible shade of red, we got white, and even some of the old Montreal trucks which are a sickly shade of dark orange* and of course a mix and match of those combined.

The new trucks coming in as of this year will be 2 toned, a real fire truck red + the top section of the cab will be "blue black" (a very dark shade of navy blue, just like our uniforms).

Pat

*= back in the late 80's and early 90's, the city of Montreal decided ALL their vehicles were to be the same colour, fire trucks, street sweepers, garbage trucks, pickups... basically everything but the mayors limo :) and they picked this awefull sickly flat shade of orange...
