Parksville, B.C. has the following apparatus on their roster:

Engine 41 - 1050 gpm pump and 500 gallons of water

Ladder 41 - 1250 gpm pump and 300 gallons of water.
75 foot aerial ladder plus various ground, roof, and attic ladders.

Rescue 41 - 1050 gpm pump and 500 gallons of water (rescue
and extrication equipment also carried on this truck)

Tanker 41 - 1200 gallon tanker

Car 41 - actually a pickup used by the Chief or Duty Officer, and capable of being used as a command vehicle.

Car 42 - actually a pickup used by the Deputy Chief or Duty
Officer, and capable of being used as a command vehicle.

We have one main hall where our 3 front line apparatus are kept. We also have a storage bay in the industrial park where the tanker is stored until needed. We are in the process of a hall expansion project, which, when completed, will allow all apparatus will be kept in one location.

Both Car 41 and Car 42 are taken home by the Chief or Deputy Chief respectively, as they respond directly from home if on call. The duty officer, who works weekends, takes either Car 41 or Car 42 home, and responds directly from home when on call.

Photos of our apparatus can be viewed on our department web site www.pvfd.ca.

Stay safe !!

Hey Firekid,
Don't take this stuff to personal, It's all just poking fun.

How old are you? I would hope that with this kind of interest you would try to become a firefighter some day! All kidding aside, you know a hell of a lot more than I do about equipment, and I been on the VFF for 14 years!

Have fun on here, don't get to worked up..

Exactly - To use a really really corny cliché: If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the fire hall :)

All of us, volunteer or professional, poke fun at each other. Some of us get in fights and disagreements, but you can bet your last foot of hose that any one of us can count on the other - no matter what disagreements we've had - to "get our back" on scene.

I had a situation somewhat similar to the above, very recently: A fellow FF and I had a rather public/well known ... falling out, I guess you could say, for lack of a better term - Three days later, we were on scene at a house fire; I double-checked his BA before he went into the structure, co-drove with him to and from the scene and we both worked together to wash down the truck, clean, hang and dry the hoses and complete the DI on vehicle return. Completely professional and friendly the whole day, which is just as it should be between firefighters on the job.

Um what the heck!! Red Devil came in with his BS comments again. Red Devil wasnt "poking fun", he was basically calling anyone who posts in here stupid! FFKid can post anything he wants. Just a simple post on what trucks and stations hisdepartment have, and Red Devil comes in and puts the kid down basically for making a stupid post. Red Devil buzz off, Im with ya on this one FFKid. He's only 18, soon, and he seems to know everything about his hometown dept. Why Red Devil are you trying to deny someone experience and knowledge? If anything you should be teaching younger people like myself and FFkid.

Hey firefighterkid. As you seem to have alot of knowledge about edmonton fire department here is a question for you or anyone that would know:

Why on those new pumpers that edmonton recieved is there a huge standup cab big enough for 6 yet the pump panel is still outside under a roll up door?

Wouldnt it be easier to have it inside so the pump op can stay out of the elements, not to mention see where he is pumping water to?

the department i work for has:
2 pumpers
1 brush truck
1 100 foot grumman ariel
2 als equipped ambulances
1 utility truck

Where are you from Rick? I find it interesting that your department has 21 fire prevention vehicles.

In Hamilton, Fire Prevention is located in 3 stations, 12, 21 & 29. They have so many vehicles so they can cover the 411 sq miles that make up Hamilton. Our population is now 503,000. This also includes public information vehicles and a trailer for the kid.
And yes inspector where assigned to most of the stations at one time. By grouping them together they can use resources more efficiently such as secretaries and just bouncing thing off each other.
I hope this helps.

Dorset, Ontario

- 2004 (2003?) International pumper (converted by Thibault)
- old (1970's?) Ford pumper
- converted Army ambulance (medical truck)
- equipment/rescue truck with jaws, brush equipment, etc
- snowmobile
- ATV
- marine unit with 200hp (?) 4-stroke Johnson outboard... welded aluminum boat, similar to many Ontario Hydro boats around, but can hold a stretcher with room to spare. holds a heck of a lot of equipment, too...

the ATV, snowmobile, and marine unit are all stored on trailers in the hall, and we just hook the equipment truck up to them as needed. both pumpers (and our old one that we just retired) are front-pump, to make drafting from lakes easier (and for added pump operator safety for roadside calls - keeps them off the highway). the front-mounted pumps also make for a slightly bigger tank capacity (by 100 or 200 gallons).

Truck 5:

Rescue 4 was scheduled to be replaced this year with a new highway rescue unit, but I it's purchase was denied and that the district wants the department to purchase a used truck (a very bad decision in my opinion, especially with the increase highway call volumn).

why yes is is big. HRFES consists of two categories core and rural operations core consists of 18 fulltime paid stations in Halifax, bedford , dartmouth, cole harbour and sackville areas.
rural consists of 6 zones outside the metro area where stations 19 to 63 are located they are occupied by around I think 48 career staff. some stations are paid/vol and some are just vol.
around 470 career staff and 800 vol and there are plans for 90 more ff to be added on top of retirements over the next 8 years.
