Good luck to all those writing for London tonight. I heard from HR that 250 people are writing, and then distant applicants on the 30th, which will be approx. 50. So given that the failure rate is about 50% for this test that leaves 150 or so for 8-10 jobs. Not bad.

Please post if you are writing tonight and hear anymore news.

London is a great city thats all I have to say. After visiting Brantford on the way to London I must say its like 2 different worlds. Brantford was the most unfriendly and hickish town ive ever been in. I would love to live in London after going up and down Richmond street and going around and checking out all the houses and stuff. Unfortunately when you see one of your teachers from your Pre-Service class whos been firefighter for alot of years then you realize its tough competition.

lol .... i'm pretty sure almost everybody in that room made the pit stop to brantford.

i do see what tyou're sayin abut the difference in the cities though.

The first 2 people I talked to looked at me and faced the other way without saying anything. I was like okay screw this town.

Doublehelix, I wouldn't judge the entire city based on those 2 people. Brantford is actually a decent, affordable, nice place to live. I mean it's not London obviously, but it's pretty good if you like less traffic and a beat up downtown ;-) My friend just bought a house there and said he saved $100k by purchasing there and not burlington.

I also wouldn't worry too much about your teacher's from pre-service writing the OS. remember, they have a 50% chance of not passing that test. AND, the city might not necessarily want to hire full time guys for their own reasons. I'm interested to see what the numbers are after the tests are marked. I'm guessing around 100. And maybe 20 or so from distant applicants. The distant applicants do have an unfair advantage of getting an interview the day after they pass the OS and York fitness. Whereas the local applicants that pass might not get an interview. They obviously won't interview 150 for 8-10 jobs.

When will we find out our results even if we dont get an interview?

Probably a letter in a few weeks indicating your OS results. At least that's the way it worked for Belleville, so considering it was administered by the same place, that should be it.

Think about it this way though, if you pass the OS, but don't receive an interview, your test should be good for Brantford.

Brantford is doing a CPS are they not? I'm pretty sure they are. And I talked to some guy in London and he said that written interview is impossible.

They've used it in the past, but I wasn't at the info session so you might be right.

Yeah that written i've heard is a way to filter out those that aren't local. Ah well, i'm not too concerned..not applying. Oh yeah, I also heard that they are hiring from their "list" so that start date may be misleading, as this hiring might just form a list for next year's hires.

Frantos, London interviews over the next couple days. If you wrote and were not called yet, you *probably* didn't pass or did not meet their screening point system. They are interviewing successful applicants that passed the york fit and OS on sunday, sunday night or monday. The 1st interview is only a screening interview one on one with HR, and the 2nd interview will be the monday or tues. Talk about a fast process!!

Hope that helps you some. As usual, the OS drastically cut down the original 275 or so applicants.
