Melita and Area Volunteer Fire department was established in 1899. I think we still use the same equipment:rolleyes:

Shoal Lake Emergency Response Team est. 1909. Coverage of the Town of Shoal Lake, the R.M. of Shoal Lake, 10 sections of the R.M. of Park, 300 sq. miles, 1500 people. 14 miles of Yellowhead Route, Trans Canada Hwy.

Established AFTER the entire businesss section burned to the ground in the great fire of 1909. So, the street called Main St. is now a residential street. The actual main drag is called Station Rd. :cool:

On edit: Wrong on chronology. The great fire was in 1899. There was no fire brigade until the Town proper was incoporated in 1909. Oh dopey me, should read ref. material before posting:p

So far we,s be the young pups being estabilishied in 1953. It seems the town fathers took a little convincing that having a fire department was a good idea. Burned down half the town in 1935. That was a not enough encentive so in 1952 they burned down the other half. Then Mister Edisons lite bulb went off. Not to sure how since power didnt get here till 1958. Ah the joys of rural life.
