Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and was considering taking the leap in to this field. I graduated high school some time ago and took some post secondary education, but I never finished any of those things since i didn't know what I wanted to do. This was always something on the back of my mind, but I was always told that EMS was very tough to get into (for college)

I have a couple of big questions I need answered...

1. Can i realistically get in an EMS program at one of the major colleges in toronto (seneca/humber/centennial) with just a high school diploma?
2. Do programs only start in september? I checked humber, seneca and centennial, and this seems to be the case. If possible I would love to start this in January 2010.

1. Yes

2. Yes, unless things have changed.

If you can't get in until next September use your time wisely. Go in and speak to the co-ordinator of one of the courses. See if there are any elective courses or general biology or something that you could take in the mean time, possibly at night school. This way you can lighten your course load by a class or two for next year, allowing you to put more time into a class that you may have more difficulties with.

what about getting a job after completion of the college program?

what about getting a job after completion of the college program?

I know that most of the graduates in the Niagara college program end up getting jobs right after, if not before graduation. Albeit most if not all are part time, but that is the way they are hiring in Niagara anyways. Which is a whole separate issue.

The placement rate is typically quite high. Most are able to find jobs within 6 months of graduating and writing their AEMCA(Ontario)

Be prepared though there is only one service that hires FT only the rest you start PT and work your way, ususally the hours are plentiful the money good but no guarntees no benifits
