Hey, I'm starting my EMT practicum here in Alberta very shortly, and I just found out we need to get our own jacket/parka for our practicum. So anyone out there in Alberta have any suggestions of jackets and dealers? I'm willing to order from the states, but it seems not enough of the dealers down there are willing to deal with us.
A few things, if you're going to recommend a US dealer please don't recommend one that doesn't ship to Canada.
If you've ordered from a US outfit and had them ship to Canada any information on your experience with Customs/shipping times would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking for as much bang for my buck as I can, since I am now a poor student.
So far I've tried sun-star already in Edmonton but I don't like the quality of their Parka.
Thanks in advance for any assistance in this matter.

Check out what options the Firehall store has available, they were selling stormtech at one point

If the firehallstore doesn't have what you are looking for try www.kssirens.com . They are in BC and carry fire and paramedic stuff.

Blauer seems to be the coat of choice in Ontario these days.Go to their website and look for dealers near you.

Go cheap. I know right now you probably want a good professional looking, comfortable and warm jacket. So did I and I spent a couple hundred on a navy blue, reflective piping, etc, etc. Consolidation was only five month and by the last two it was warm enough I didn't even put it in the truck. In the three months I might have needed it, I only wore it on MVC's and outside calls (I'd rather be cold for the 20ft walk from truck to house then sweating the whole time I'm inside). Then when it's all said and done, you get a job and they issue you a coat and you find yourself either taking the patches off your student coat and using it for the winter or trying to recoup your expenses by pawning it off on the next class.
Don't order the coats at www.sands.ca though. They suck.
Also consider getting a coat that meets ANSI Class 2 for Hi-Vis. Saves you from putting your vest overtop on scene.

Try 5.11 Tactical. They often have sales and/or closeouts and great reviews on their products

BCAS's jackets are made by a company called Gerber, we have the hi-vis lime green jackets, a little pricey if you have to buy your own, they are NFPA rated.

We have the the "response parka", you can also get a vest that looks the same, minus the hood. A few at my station have them, and you can wear them at an MVI as they are the right colour.
Hope that helps!!

You have more info on those vests? I'd like to convince Logisitics here to carry them as an option for us.

5.11 Tactical has great parkas. $2-300 for a jacket, you will have it for as long as you need it...or until you get on with AHS. I also don't really like the sunstar gear, not as high quality as clothing from 5.11.

Hi, on our way to the 911 store in Calgary we decided to stop at Army and Navy. They had about 4 different navy blue jackets under $100. that would work perfectly for emt practicum.
