town of orangeville is apparantly going to be going outside to hire a full-time firefighter. probably going to be advertised in the local papers only, in the next week or so.
okay, the race is on...ready, set.....now dont everyone jump at once, just wanted to let you know that orangeville has opened up. Looks like they are hiring one and you need Emergency First Responder Certificate and OFM Pump Ops...heres the link.

Anyone notice you need
"Defibrillator Certification through Waterloo Region-Wellington Dufferin Base Hospital or equivalent."
That alone cuts alot of people. Unless you are a paramedic, part time/volly firefighter you cant get a base hospital defib cert. Luckily my dept is under that base hospital.
For all you fellow college grads, is the First Responder Course considered the same as a Red Cross First Responder course?

At my college we graduated with Emergency Patient Care. But it was a 1 day course to upgrade to Red Cross First Responder.
So if you took AED through Red Cross thats not good enough? Kind of stupid if thats the case.

Did you notice that they spelled Firefighter wrong on their website!!! Probably to make some people on this forum feel a little better. :)
DH - I doubt that you were AED certified when you took that course, just more of an awareness course right?

I just noticed one more thing, you need "minimum of 2 years firefighting experience" does that mean pre-service counts for 1 year or what?

Ah yeah I missed that 2 years experience thing. Oh well. Chances of a 20 year old getting hired there probaly arent that good anyways.
yeah, sorry guys. just read the posting in the local paper...two years exp. defib. Oh well. They are doing a volunteer recruitment information day on the 12th. I'll go out for that.
