I plan on attending the funeral of one of the fallen RCMP Officers who lost there life in Haiti. I am wondering if its appropriate to wear a poppy on my dress uniform? Seeing as how he died while on a UN Mission. I am not sure if this is the right place to put this.

No,the poppy is only worn in the two weeks preceding rememberance day and should be removed on the 12th.

A black stripe over any metal badges, such as the forage cap or chest is acceptable or a black ribbon on the left lapel

Seeing as this is a police officer, would the ribbon worn on the lapel not be blue? Black always covers a badge on the hat or chest. I agree 100% with "dentedhead" on the poppy question too.

Guess blue would work too.I just thought black as it is the traditional colour of mourning in the western world.

What about a red ribbion? Seeing as how its RCMP? I am asking these things cause I dont know. This will be the first funeral for a serving member that I have gone to. We are expecting around 4000 thousand in uniform at the funeral. I am very close to the officer. We are related actully. Where would I get the mourning band? Or are those made?

No red. Google "police memorial ribbon" and you'll see quite a few examples of a blue ribbon on a black ribbon together. Go to a local fabric shop and explain your situation and what you are trying to accomplish and I'm sure they will help you out. All the best to you!

Check with your local RCMP detachment, and ask them about the police memorial ribbon. It is blue and black with a badge in the centre. They may be able to get one for you, especially if your are related to one of the fallen members.

The website for the memorial ribbon is www.memorialribbon.com You can get one through the website as well.

Attached is a photo of the ribbon. Hope this helps.

Stay safe !!

What about white gloves? Or is that not the right occasion. I only wear my dress uniform on Rememberance day. Thats why I am asking these questions.

White gloves are absolutely appropriate for this occasion. My only suggestion is that you save them for the most formal parts of the day. If you are unsure or in doubt, leave them on. When mingling or greeting people, you can have them off. Personally, I always remove a glove to shake hands. Once the ceremony(s) has completed you can remove them. They can always be left on for warmth if needed too.

Also, your memorial ribbon could be worn on the left breast or left lapel of your dress tunic. The breast location should be centred on the breast panel and over the left pocket. Either of those locations would be appropriate.

Questions are fine. That's how we learn!

Thank you all, I live on the east coast. What about black gloves? Or would those be only with a over coat?

Yes, save the black gloves with the over coat. White gloves with the uniform.
