View Full Version : Question
Hey everyone, im new here, so please excuse me if this is in the wrong section. The question i want to ask is do fire stations have ride alongs or tours of the fire stations? Is it ok to walk into a fire station to ask or is it best to call first? Thanks a lot!!!

I know with us you have to contact our Fire Administration at the Civic Centre, it helps if you enrolled in a program of some kind too.
Thanks for your reply. The fire departments here in Newmarket have a non-emergency number, so i may call that. I also do plan on taking Seneca's three program, which offers a co-op in firefighting, but that's in the third year, which is pretty far away!!! I was hopeing it would be possible to tour a fire department and talk with a firefighter about the job.

A follow up to LtBlondie's post ... in Brampton if you want to just visit the firehall, by all means come on in. Just try not to do it around lunch or dinner time or Sunday breakfasts ... you'll get a lot more information that way.
Ride alongs are another story ... you have to get permission from administration and sign waivers and then you get scheduled to a hall for the day. And yes, it does help if you are enrolled in some sort of program, but is certainly not mandatory.

Be sure to give them a call before you try for a ride along. A lot of departments require a waiver to be signed etc etc and it takes time to set up.
Give the head office or administration a call and they will put you through to the right people.
If you just want a tour then generally as long as there are guys in the station then they will be glad to show you around, everyone loves a good tour to interupt station duties.
Have fun!!
