Interview Prep

Hey all,

I have an interview next week with BCFS and I was hoping some of you guys could help me out. The invite told me that there will be behavioral questions as well as technical ones. I realize I need to study the BCFS website, but I was just hoping you guys could steer me in the right direction. Are there any specific technical questions any of you remember?

I haven't done an interview with British Columbia but I have done some with Alberta and Manitoba(last year). My recent one with Alberta consisted of them asking me about pumps, chainsaws and helitac hazards as I am a Fire Ranger II in Toba. Also they asked about the fire triangle so its good to study fire behavior. They asked the usual questions about my certs and if they were up to date, any small engine experience and carpentry skills, first aid. They also gave me a scenario in which on day 11 of a 14 shift a crew member wants to leave early and what would I do to make him stay. Asked about my school and my degree, and where I would see myself in 5 years time.

I would think that BC would have some similar questions and hopefully a BC crewmember could help you a bit more. Good luck!

hey so I'm guessing you guys have done the interviews by now, what kind of questions did they ask?

Hey guys, been 9 years since i've done mine. Expect some "what would you do" type questions. They really don't ask a ton of technical questions. Make sure that you have safety and teamwork as key points when you can. Suitability is a big factor for us in picking new recruits, we can teach you all you need to know about digging a ditch and putting water on fire, but if you don't play well with others it makes everybody's life really tough!
