The local firefighters' union is upset about Mayor Herb Pond's comments on the city's inability to hold independent negotiations. Calvin Thompson, president of the International Fire Fighters Union Local 559, said, in spite of the recent direction collective bargaining has taken between the city and local firefighters, he was surprised and disappointed by the comments.
