I have a personal set of black bunker gear that I use for training e.t.c and I want to put my last name in 3" yellow reflective letters on the back.
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get the letters that can be sewn on to my coat , or be sewn onto the same fabric as my coat (seperate panel) then onto the back? I have yellow/white/yellow split reflective stripes on the gear so I think the yellow letters would look good.
If anyone knows where I can get this made or buy letters, please let me know!

If I were you unless you are having it done by the manufacturer of the gear I would leave it alone. If you add something after it has been manufactured like this you would void any warranty or protection elements that the gear was designed for.
As well if you add the lettering on the patch you would almost certainly alter the THL and TPP rating of the gear which could result in you being injured.

There are a couple companies that are ISO 9001 certified that offer NFPA approved gear cleaning, repairs & alterations.
http://www.fireservicemanagement.com/ in Toronto
http://www.bunkergearcleaningandrepair.com/ in North Bay
And another on in Barrie, ON -Georgian Firegear Service - but they don't have a website. What kinda company doesn't have a website in this day and age? What is this, 1994? Completely outrageous.
Just Google 'turnout repairs' or bunker gear repair'. Its all there.

These companies are certified to clean and alter as in sizing I'm sure but I would bet that they cant do something like add lettering or alter it in that way.

...We used to bring our stuff to him until the changing of the guard, now everything goes to North Bay for repairs, seeing how it's only 2 hours away and stuff?
Why send the gear 10 minutes down the road when you can ship it off to North Bay, right? Its a clear choice, huh? Haha. But to be honest, my gear just came back from repair and the only thing different about when I stuck it in the bag to send it out was that it came back folded. Its still full of little rips and tears all over the place, there's a blood stain on my pocket that they never took care of...I would say its a little less dingy but that's about it. Not impressed at all. When Bob was running things they fixed everything you noted and then found things you missed too.

I guess it would be best to check with...the manufacturer maybe? Our manufacturer lists our service provider as a certified maintenance facility. All our older gear that goes out for cleaning comes back with our dept name sewn on the back and half of a streamlight holder installed on the front to match our newest sets. I know our chief is very particular about our gear ("Don't write your name on the inside of your coat, damnit!! Its got a bar code for a reason!") so I just assumed they are approved to make alterations. I can't imagine him letting them touch the stuff if they weren't.

Ya I bought this gear used when I was in college and it will never be in a fire environment again which is why I was going to get the letters sewn on the back.
I am not worried about dammaging any layers ( sewn onto the outter most layer only) it's just somthing I want done as it was my first set of bunkers I owned and I think it would look good.
I will check with the company in North Bay and Toronto and see what happens. Thanks for the posts!
