Gunther Gottgetreu has gone from a hero to a zero. Port Moody firefighters are reeling from the bombshell that one of their own -- the trusted treasurer of their union -- defrauded them out of $126,778 in union dues. Local 2399 president Rob Suzukovic said his members felt "disgraced" and "angry" over Gottgetreu's subterfuge, which was discovered last January in an audit that was ordered because he was approaching 60, the mandatory retirement from the Port Moody Fire Department.
