NFPA 1041 certified ESI II instructor. I've taught hazmat awareness and operations. In fact I need to teach another couple courses soon before the college starts bugging me about my status...

Hey Tox,
If you do an ops course in the near future...can you save a couple of seats for us. We have about 12-14 guys that will need ops, so we'll have to do them a few at a time. Is it one weekend or two??

iamvff: Unfortunately the college in it's ultimate wisdom has changed their policy on teaching ops. Seems that only college staff can instruct it now. That might change in the future but for now I can't teach ops; neither can the other volly instructors who took a week off work to teach at the college to get "certified".:(

Hah, there's a surprise. The OFC spends more time trying to screw over the Instructors in this province than they do promoting fire safety. Every damn time you turn around, somebody's little empire has new rules. 10 years, I was qualified as FSI level I, then someone decides we've all gotta re-certify. So I have to give up a weekend that I don't have (I had just opened a new business) so I can re-certify. Out of the 21 qualified FSIs in this MAD, 1 re-certified. That really does the members a lot of good. On top of it, even though I do instruct, none of the guys can take any Level 1 testing because I'm not qualified to teach. What a crock.

I have the FSI 1 Instructors Certificate from the Justice Institute, and have had it since 97. In that time I have taught all the core material for FF1 and FF2 certification.
When I was in the interior, I was an instructor and training officer for my department. I also taught recruit classes at the NORD Fire Training Centre.
More recently I have been on the training committee of my department. I assist the training officer in delivering all the core material for both FF1 and FF2. I also work with the various crews on skills maintenance.
I have also taught an orientation program for slope and embankment rope rescue. It was just an orientation using theory and hands on training. I developed the program using material from the various courses I had taken.
If all works out later this year, I will be taking the FSI II program, and the First Medical Responder Instructor's program.
Stay safe !!
