Hey folks.
Just wondering:
If your department has one?
Is it actually used?
What Brand is it?
How much did it Cost?
Whats' the population of your response area (that the camera's used in)?
After using it, are there features that you are left wanting?
Personaly I think they're great, many uses but unsure if it's something that's worth putting on the wishlist. Our department currently doesn't have one, but I've used them at work before.

We've got them , had them for about 6 months so far, there on all 1st run pumpers in the city we service about 250,000 people and the Brand is MSA evolution 5000 it's hand held unit and sits in a recharger on the dog house of the truck it has a retractable strap that connects to a biner and the Captain hooks it on his gear when they arrive on scene. Hope this helps

We have MSA on the pumps and like Lt. Blondie , they are stored on a charger in the cab. On the rescues we have a Bullard. They are a great thing, very easy to use. Our population is anywhere from 800 000 and up. Msa are great, light weight and easy to use. We actually tried out a whole bunch and as a consensus chose the Msa. I will find out the actual brand name for you when I get back to work.

We have the Scott eagle imager on our pumps. it is carried in a charger on the doghouse. Yes it is used, we are always finding interesting things to use it for, Ie. Water rescue in the boat on the Bay of Quinte, Looking for missing people at night , as well as the obvious fire applications. After using it in a couple of fires I wonder how we did with out them. In fact the second fire I was at after they were introduced, the crew rescued a lady after finding her with the imager. We service a pop of 50 grand.

Ok....so I kinda guessed prior that all the big city folks would chime in....
IMHO they're in the realm of sliced bread....or the wheel....
I just need to convince others of that.
Any other rural departments with'em?
(city folks...please keep posting too ~ I'm interested in makes models and opinions of them aswell....)

I am pretty sure Steinbach,Manitoba has one. I was there a few years ago for a tour of their dept, and the were saying the Safeways bought it for them at a fairly steep price tag! I am not 100% sure of the details though.

We have had ours for a few months now. Bullard T3 Max. Population for our hall is 2000 (our township has 4 halls. Total maybe 8000) we are the only hall in our township running one and we had to raise half the cash for it.
We have used it at almost every call for some reason or another. What a great piece of technology.

We have a TIC in Squamish (pop. 17 000) and it is on our Squad truck. It comes in handy for all the above and we have used it for searches, grow-op detection for the RCMP, and of course at the fire scene for salvage and overhaul. I think we could use it a bit more in the attack mode but oh well, I guess at least we have one.

We have one on each of our rescues (3) the argument being that one of them responds to each structure fire

Our department serves 14000 from 2 halls. We did extensive reviews and found the MSA Evolution 5000 to be the best. The dept bought one and our association bought a 2nd for the other hall. Great camera, very easy to use and around $9000. I've just learned that MSA is coming out with a new camera, very similar but even better picture. Supposed to be the same price.
Hope this helps

We have 1 MSA for 3 stations it spends most of it's time at station #1 from what I seen it works really well problem is will it be at the calls for the other halls in time. I think we paid @ $9000.

We have one in each of our stations in the rescue trucks. We serve a population of about 10,000 but that swells to about 100,000 on weekends in the summer. MSA Evolution 5000. Use it lots and I think it pays for itself in reduced overhaul costs let alone the fact that it may one day save someone's life

Bullard on our Rescue unit. Serve roughly 1000 people but we do use it for many different situations.

We are looking at a number of different TIC's. From the ones I've looked at, the Bullard T3Max would be my choice.

Take a look back through this thread, we use the MSA Evolution 5000, it's compact, hooks to your coat, great piece of equipment. Looking through the thread this seems to be one of the most popular units. We have tried a lot of other brands and this one seems to be the best:cool:

We tried Bullard ISI Scott and settled on the MSA 4000 and the 5000, one of each. We run out of 1 station and serve about 18,00 urban and about 6000 rural. MSA is by far the best esp the 5000 light easy to use and user friendly.

We have the MSA 4500, couple of years old now but great piece of gear, on ours we have the temprature guage and the wireless transmitter with the reciver set up in our command unit to a tv/vcr combo, anytime the camera's used at a fire the chief just pushes record and everything is logged. We have used it alot, in training espically, one thing I preach to others is that not to get depandant on it, it's a machine and machines break, so stick to the basics, low and on the wall. The whole unit cost around 35 thousand and is worth every cent, we tested almost everything on the market and found this to be the best. Extremely rugged as well ours has had it's share of dings and drops and keep on going. Never been down for service. Our department serves around 10,000 pop and we are a composite department. I feel that every department should have one of these cameras because what a diffrence seeing makes.

We bought our own, our association did. (Do other departments fundraise to purchase equipment for their department?) MSA, two years ago. It's great, can't believe how much it's used. It's in our first due Rescue, clips on a belt. Paid around $11,000. We are a small rural department thay services a population of around 2800.

I believe that we have a Scott in our rescue. As mist everyone else we use it for several applications. We service about 3500 people in the NWT.
