I was hoping I could get some advice or suggestions. I willl be doing my EMR licensing in August (am not able to do it sooner due to work, unfortunately), but I start my PCP training (fulltime) in September. I was wondering if it is a good idea to put in my application to BCAS and try to get hired as an EMR while I am in my PCP course. Is it realistic to try to get hired/work as an EMR while you are going through the PCP program? Will it make starting work as a PCP easier if I have atleast been through the hiring process (done all the interviews, assessments, etc.). Also, is there anything else I could do to prepare for September? I recently picked up a good anatomy and physiology text and go on ride alongs as often as I can. I appreciate any input! Thanks!

Are you doing the full time course or Part time? the course is intensive but there are lots of EMR's currently training as PCP out of my Station, if you get in you will get on Car, some additional training, and become more confident in your ability, as well your PCP course counts towards your availability so if you cannot work any shifts you wont loose seniority. A big thing is as well the Practicums are not that easy to get I know of at least 4 EMR's that are done and awaiting Practicums, at least your on car earning some money and getting some experience.

Once you get your PCP license, all you do is advise your Unit Chief, who will advise Payroll and you can now get paid a few more bucks an hour, as well you can now lateral to Urban and metro stations instead or Rural and Remotes.

I'm doing the fulltime course in New West. What are the different parts of hiring? I know about the application, interview, and physical assessment, but what else is involved? Do you need to show your driving skills (I already have my class 4 unrestricted) or anything like that? Is it realistic for me to go through all the hiring while I am in school 5 days a week? I didn't know that the PCP course counts towards your availability, thanks for letting me know! That's a relief. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

Yes, you should send in your aplication to the BCAS. I was hired while doing my PCP course in Parksville and working full time, so it is doable. When it comes to driving, you do not need to show your skills. Once you are hired, you will do a day of practicing code 3 driving, and then do a day of actually driving for a crew and they precept you on how your driving is. again you should send in your application as soon as possible due to it may take some time before you get a phone call and start the hiring process.

Good Luck!
