gotta love my TIC, what a great versatile tool too use, from locating the seat of a fire to search and rescue. A friend of mine used his TIC as an industrial accident, a worker had accidently cut his finger off in a machine, they used the camera to locate the finger in the machine, and they were able to send it off to the hospital with the worker.

Since we have yet to acquire a thermal imaging camera, the halligan tool would be my favourite. Very versatile tool that can accomplish a lot of tasks. :D

Stay safe !!

How many people use the Standard Haligan? Ours is what our sales rep calls an Extrication Haligan as it has an extrication claw on one end.

I have not seen to many departments that use them, but they are great at ripping apart sheet metal, creating purchase points, or making already existing holes bigger.

By far my tool of choice.

I like the kelly tool, all the pry of the haligan, less weight, more tradition. I gotta way to hang it off the pack if I need both hands and it don't poke.

We have a new tool called the FireMaxx. it has 14 different functions including axe, hammer, prybar etc. It does just about everything & will probably replace our hooligan tool.

My Favorite tool is the Osocilating Monitor......though as said below that prolly doesn't qualfy.....but it gives us time to deal with whutever without babysitting a hose.

What's actually a tool though - the Haligan bar takes the cake....

Hey SJ, I would think the oscillating monitor would be classified as an appliance.

Oh, I vote for the Halligan.

Hey Red, I use a big beaner on the left side shoulder strap of my MSA on the 'handle" that lossen/tightens the strap. I also hang flashlights or a TIC from there (not all at once), it will lossen that strap eventually as u move, so give it a quick twist under, works great!

I've also tryed using a loop of webbing between the cylinder and backplate over one shoulder w/ beaner. I used to use it for high rise calls cause you got so much to carry, just clip something on and it kinda counterballences the pack. I was always worried about it catching me somewhere, and now i work in a retirement hall with no hi-rise calls so I don't use it anymore.

My favorite tool is...the rookie. He can go get stuff off the truck, clean dirty hose, roll up clean hose and take all the sh!t and abuse you can dish out.

It's good not to be the rookie at my new hall anymore. :D

P.S. No rookies were harmed in the making of this post.

My favorite is the Halligan. We don't have a TIC yet and when we require one we borrow one from another departement. I enjoy it very much!!! Hoping to get one soon!!!

I remember this one Sunday morning I was dispatched to a medical call across the street to a large church while assigned to basically a pick-up truck with portable pumps and hose for rural areas within our region if needed. Our pumper and aerial were just dispatched to a fire alarm activation at some apartment complex and I was left to attend to our Sunday dinner still cooking away. Within a few minutes I was across the street at a church doing CPR for some elderly gentlemen. I happen to carry my own airways and CPR pocket mask, being that I am also a first aid instructor, so I was able to initiate some level of first response until our nearest rescue showed up a minute or so later from the next available station with our paramedics and a defibrillator. Upon my return to the station I was summoned to the Capt’s office where he asked why I responded without all the necessary tools needed (oxygen, BVM, etc.) even though this policy is in effect in our department with all other vehicle which carry this gear. My answer was to him, “because I teach people to do what I did at the very least until more help arrives, that is why I carry my own airways and CPR mask, sir”. He agreed, and replaced my used pocket mask with a new one. I later learned that evening from the other paramedics that the elderly gentleman did make it.

In this case, it was my own abilities (and a pocket mask) that was my tool. So, like any other job that has to be done, the right tool for the job you are doing is always best.

When fighting fire, I personally like the nozzle myself. Let the rookies do the swinging and kicking.

Red, I have to agree with you. Give me the sledge any time. When I would grab it of the truck, people would ask me "Where am I going with that?" My answer..."Anywhere I want!"
One guy at a fire decided we needed a extra door into the building. It took him about 2 minutes to go through a solid concrete blaock wall with it! Try doing that with anyother tool!
