What other emergency related groups do you belong to outside of your volunteer dept??

I joined the Manitoba USAR Team in NOV/04.

We did the structural collapse level 1 in Nov/04

We are heading for a winter training exercise in a local provincial park on Monday. Four days out in the bush. 50+ people. Should be a lot of fun. 24 hour a day search and rescue, 8 hour shifts. Try and hold the fort while I'm gone guys!

Be safe

I'm involved in the CBRN repsonse plans for one of the major hospitals in the area, as well as one of the 4 chairs of our industrial Emergency response team for the company I'm employed at.
Primarily we do medical and hazmat response (it's a big high tech place with a wafer fab and lotsa nasties.....) But have been known to plunge toilets, fix HVAC's, mop floors and countless other menial tasks.....
I'm also the health and safety rep for our shift ~ 250 employees (still emergency response - but more on the political side of things......)

I used to be involved in some swift water rescue stuff as well.....

I'm the head of the Safety Committee at work.. does that count! We had to go through evacuation training, workplace safety training, earthquake awareness (it was developed by the West Coast), etc.... I had to put a bandaid on a co-worker the other day before she fainted... lol!

Hey toxic your man to be asking this

how long does the hazmat tech course take. We only have so many guys in NB with the course and I was looking into it but the guy is taking awhile to get back to me. Just wanted some general info on the course. I know I need to have awarness and ops but thats the extent of my knowledge.

BCFTOA - B.C. Fire Training Officers Association.

When I was in the Yukon, I belonged to the Search and Rescue
Team. Got lots of good training through them, especially rope rescue and some high angle.

Now the fire department consumes most of my spare time. Big commitment, so can't really devote time to other groups.

I did manage to find time to coach minor hockey this year, and
still getting some scuba diving in (but definitely not as much as
I would like).

Stay safe !!
