im starting at the college of the rockies as of march 7th and from that course i get my 1001's and all the courses i need for the wilderness firefighter position (s100 etc), my question out there to all you guys is ... what are some of the suggested courses that you think will or has helped you get a job as firefighter.

personaly ive looked at a few courses from the justice institute such as ship board firefighting, confined entry ( up to operations) im taking diving this summer up to dive rescue level but im sure there are some other things out there that would help me become a better candidate ... oh and someone mentioned a degree in fire science .... where do i get that??? heh 20 questions !!

thanks for any help that can be offered...

ps i got lots of time to get things done im only 20:cool:

The courses you mentioned are all fine, but try to round out your resume. Think outside the obvious FF courses. We deal with structures on a daily bases, so look at some construction courses, or public speaking so you'll be good with pub ed. Volunteer somewhere, not just FF but Red Cross, Soup Kitchen whatever. I found when I was out looking, these types of things weighed more than another FF course like Shipboard, or Confined Space. Especially for younger guys with less life experience.

Just a thought :D
