As I sat waiting with bated breath, it was announced the NHL season has been cancelled for this year!
Sigh, hard to feel sorry for the players or the league.. millionaires and billionaires fighting over money... I feel sorry for those who made a living working in the arenas, etc... too bad!
I've been watching some ridiculous detective show on Saturday nights just waiting for hockey to come back... sheeesh!!! So, now they'll saturate the European leagues and knock those guys out of work... they piss me off... "Oh no, if there's a cap, I may never make more than 12 million in a year... I'm worth more than that..." *stomping feet* "How dare they pay me less for a game I grew up playing because I loved it, for a game I have lost all real passion for and have allowed it to become a business and not a pleasure, for being the star of the night and feeling that ultimate euphoria of scoring a goal in the National Hockey League, for being given the opportunity to be among greatness and the physical elite...."
Give me a break....

Let them try living on our salaries. We fight just to get a 3-5% raise every year, and if we do get it we are trilled. Don't get me wrong, I love hockey and am a die hard Oiler fan but....... If they can't live on 1.8 millon a year:mad:

I agree Sue. You are bang on in my opinion. If there is a good side to this it seem's people are discovering other thing's to do with their time. Myself, I have been going to Vancouver Giant's games and love it. The WHL is a great league and more people know that now out here. Whether it's spending more time with loved one's or just getting out and being more active, people are getting by. It'll be interseting to see how many fan's don't bother with the NHL when they do get back to playing. Personally i'll be right back in the mix, i'm too much of a hockey fan but the league should be really worried about the "part time" fan, they could be gone for good...... :( ....BC.......

me too bestcoast... I'll be tuning in and buying tickets when I can, because I love my team and I just love the game!! But, I have been to some 67's games this year and I will continue to attend them next year... for $12 a ticket, you can't beat it! I get to see the up and comers playing for the love of it, and playing with a spark... too many NHL'ers lose that. I remember when Havlat first came to Ottawa, he was electric on the ice, and his stick handling was so fast and fun to watch and now... pphhhllltttt... phizzle... it's nice to see them while they still have "it" and they aren't stressed over contracts and salary negotiations!!
Anyway... next year, we'll see what happens, I'm just glad they "got off the pot" and made a decision one way or another so we won't have to hear about it every day!

I have to agree about all the BS the NHL and the NHLPA has spewed out this year.
Money Money Money.... it's like taking candy from a frickin baby.
Good riddance to this season, I would most certianly NOT have watched a short season and would not have considered anyone to be Stanley Cup Champs this year.

I am very surprised, I thought I would be devastated by the NHL cancelling the season, But as with all junkies that are forced to go cold turkey, I have gotten through the bad times and things don't look so bad. In fact who cares, I have my methadone clinic in Junior hockey and am loving the intensity in the OHL. GO BULLS GO! I would change my handle on this forum if I knew how.

OH the Belleville Bulls.......I thought you were a basketball fan there Leafs Fan!!!:D I couldn't agree more about the CHL. Attendance is way up throughout the league and i've enjoyed every Giant's game so far this year. With the World Junior Championships in Vancouver this Christmas it is safe to say that Junior hockey rules the roost in Vancouver these days and it's great exposure for these kid's...I've even been out to a couple University games this year and found them quite entertaining....BC...

it's not like there broke the players have a 300 million in a fund for situations like this (strike fund) so I don't think they will go hungry or maybe they will. 700 players 300 million dollars so what's that 400 000 g's for doing shit all sad shit. This won't end and there will be replacement players next year or the year after. NHL will fold and start from scratch.

10 Gs a month is what they get... 10 Gs!!! Imagine that!!! And 60% of them are earning another salary in Europe... I think one should cancel out the other... you cannot have strike pay if you are being paid to play somewhere else, it only seems fair. I wonder now that the season has been cancelled if they will continue to get their 10 gs  I hope not!!
I think it would be great if the NHL was scrapped and a real league was developed,... oh, I don't know, something like it was in the 80's! I was talking to Mike Bossy a little while ago and he was pissed at what these "kids" are getting paid. He was a better player than most of these punks put together.. you don't have a 50 point season your rookie season and then every year after that and then some if you aren't excellent... you know what he's doing now? He's a Humpty Dumpty Chip rep! Of course he has his restaurant as well, he's comfortable enough, but he has to work... most players today could play for 3 years, live modestly and be set for the rest of their days.... sad, sad, sad..... :(
I would love to see a new league, with a team cap of about $5 mill and see who comes out to play... those great athletes who care about the game and love every minute of it!!! How exciting would that be?

IMHO (see sig.) the NHL has been the WWE of hockey since about the mid 80s.
Point: Players make too much. Yeah, they do, but 2 people had to sign that contract. Owners are their own worst enemy.
Point: Many clubs are losing money. See the point above AND consider that the tiny perfect commissioner keeps putting clubs into hockey hotbeds like Charlotte.
Point: Many players are playing in Europe. Yeah they are :) Just wait for the screams from the NHLPA when those Europeans that their members stole jobs from in their home leagues, come over here to play in the new re-organized NHL. The NHLPA certainly has no grounds to call SCAB.
Point: AHL hockey is fun to watch, because for the most part these guys are playing for the scouts every night. Junior hockey, in pretty much any league, is great stuff. Hard hitting, fast skating. REAL HOCKEY. If you don't believe all those who have said that here, you have never watched it.;)
So thank goodness this episode of "As The Stomach Turns" is over. Players can keep on squeezing by on 10,000/mo (and their investment income) and us poor working stiffs don't have to fork out $85 - $100 to watch prima donnas go through the motions.
THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THE NHL TODAY IS THAT THERE ARE TOO MANY TEAMS FOR THE TALENT POOL. That's it in a nutshell. Fully one third of those playing in the NHL shouldn't be. That's how I see it.

I hope the players sit until they realize the league has to be able to guarantee it will have healthy finances first.....players second. The players had things way too far in their favor the last ten years. Too bad they wrecked it for the younger guys.

I know the players are making lots of money but the owners are the ones giving it to them. Some of the amounts that the owners offer up without any reason astound me! Also I don't see the too many owners selling off their teams because they are losing money.
I one thing I don't understand is why the players didn't sign the offer because no matter what, the owners will find a way to screw the contract up and the increases will continue!
