TORONTO, ON - When you think it's too much bother to fire up the grill on a snowy night, think of the firefighters at work with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority Fire Department.
Once or twice a day, 24/7, the more than 80 full-time firefighters stationed in one of two airport firehalls are barbecuing big-time in the middle of a barren, cold airfield. With 16 to 17 firefighters per shift, working 10- or 12-hour shifts — and pizza delivery not an option — cooking outdoors makes sense, says firefighter Todd Aitken.
They like barbecuing so much, they decided to create a cookbook. Dozens of firefighters contributed individual recipes to Firehall Favourites: Recipes From Toronto Pearson Firefighters (http://www.gtaa.com/Index.aspx?Sid=Node12&Tpl=6&PRESSID=280)
