Hey again...... What? Am I the only dreamer in here?

What about adding some optinos in the profiles so people could have graphics in their name/location/post count box identifying if they're full time, volunteer, their rank and possibly what about special training?

hazmat? RIT? Water rescue? Trainer? etc etc...... Maybe have a limit as to how many can be selected to limit the space......

Something like this.......(note VERY ROUGH DOODLING)

I think that by seeing where people are in terms of their career or volunteer status, it might help in explaining their views and opinions, and might accredit what they're saying as having 'been there done that.......'

I think it would be a good idea, as said earlier by one of the bosses they are developing a new system for the future, it may come with that. You can always EDIT the little saying under your name in your profile options.

In regards to the quote below, I think it would be pretty easy to say one has done this and that regardless of whether they actually have. Just my thoughts.

Maybe have a minimum post count before someone could add them........I mean after 50 posts or so everyone on here has a pretty good idea if some's full of it & themselves or not....

The use of icons to give a quick representation of years in, rank, qualifications, and the sort is a good idea. We will look into this.

At present there are many features already in place. In the Author column above every post there are five things that indicate or profile who the poster is.

User Name: This of course is set when you create your account
Post Count: This is set and needs no explanation (I hope)

Custom User Text: This is the title that appears beneath your name on your posts. You may enter up to 25 characters. By default it repeats your User Name, set in Edit Profile (http://firehall.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile)

Location: Where you live, work, perhaps your hall name, set in Edit Profile (http://firehall.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile)

Avatars: Small graphical images that you choose are displayed beside your user name. You must have more than 15 posts to specify your own custom avatar. We do not at this time have default avatars you must upload your own. Avatars can be set in Edit Avatar (http://firehall.com/forum/profile.php?do=editavatar)

Both the Edit Profile (http://firehall.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile) and Edit Options (http://firehall.com/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions) links are found by going to the User Control Panel or User CP (http://firehall.com/forum/usercp.php?) at the top any Forum page once you are logged in.

All of the above are for quick reference.

Profile: for more detailed information there is View Profile (http://firehall.com/forum/member.php?u=2) this is accesed by clicking on a members name or avatar that will show specific details of the Poster. This area allows the user to post such things about them selves as Biography, Interests, and Occupation.

To edit these details go to Edit Profile (http://firehall.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile)

The user View Profile (http://firehall.com/forum/member.php?u=2) by default does not include any personal information only what the individual wish to be known of them selves.

If you have any questions regarding all this first have a look at the FAQ's (http://firehall.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_user_maintain) then if the FAQ's (http://firehall.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_user_maintain) do not help, post your question to the forum so that we may clarify it for you and all other members of Firehall.com

yeah yeah yeah.... I know that :D

But more people would be using it if we just check boxes (captin, cheif, officer, etc or water rescue, hazmat, high angle etc etc) and it shows up then.....

Anyway..... Just an idea.....do with it as you may :)

Maybe some day I'll get around to making my own and stickin it as my avatar, then everyone will be jelous and make their own. :P

And what about those people who aren't quite fortunate enough to be a part of the service just yet... I am a while away what would my Designation be???? and all the others....
Now what about recruit based on how long you have been in school... or how long you have been with the 'hall.com... This would then be placed in the hands of admin 'cause I don't think many people would feel right if people were saying they are Captains and DC's when they Haven't even felt how hot there Turkey's Get in the oven......

I'm not sure what benefit it would be to drag rank, service, experience, and courses into this theatre. I'm quite new to the forum and I envision it as somewhere that the whole Fire Service can discuss issues without these things getting in the way. Otherwise whats the difference between this forum and the kitchen table? I also believe that some fellas might use this as a form of bragging which will only cheapen this process.97

I have to agree! If you feel you want to let everyone know what rank you are or whatever, start a post and who ever wants to reply can. Just a suggestion.

Wow NinetySeven!

Somebody agreed with you  ! That never happens at the hall!:) ;) :D

Seriously though, part of what makes this forum so great is that we are all equal and treated the same. Our opinion counts just as much regardless of rank etc. Sure, sometimes our opinion or expertise on a subject might be linked to a rank or certification we hold, but that doesn't need to be expressed every time.

I want to think of everybody here as members of a community, not as Capt This or as F/F That, trained in everything under the sky.

I have no problem with what you guys are saying, and personaly, think that the majority of us would be able to see past the title...... at least I hope so.

The basic understanding on here is that we're all talking back and forth on here are the same level - so what does it matter if you know what the prespective of the person your conversing with is?

Who hasn't gone out and enjoyed a pint or three with a 'superior' rank and been able to be frank in their discussion of whatever the topic was at the time???

I'm sure that seeing that R_D is actually the chief of TFS isn't really going to make a difference in how people react to him ;)

I see your point... But my understanding vs. someone who has put in 30 years of service is completely Different... I guess for me it is to idenitfy who's who... Knowledge... I don't want someone shooting off a scenario to me when they couldn't tell me what they would do... What I am saying is I don't want people to be talking from the wrong hole!

I think your bang on here NinetySeven, keep the rank's etc.. to yourself.....On my job you don't even write your officer's exam's till about 16 or 17 years on the job. 17 years on other job's would make you a captain, or even a chief in some cases. I think we can all learn from each other's experiences and knowledge on issues without saying i'm a captain or whatever........BC.....

As an NFF I don't really have a need to know anyones rank. It becomes obvious real fast where the knowledge is. There is alot of it floating around these posts. Ranks mean very little to me unless I'm meeting someone in person. I just like picking their brains or laughing on the coat tails.

Kinda thought NFF would be "to easy" as everyone knows I'm not a FF. Oh well ScubaJude make sure to dig that whole big enough for me. I'm always doing or saying something I'd like to hide from. ;)
