A 54-year-old man who fell asleep while smoking a cigarette is to blame for a fire that ripped through a Baseline Road apartment early yesterday, the Ottawa fire department says. It took firefighters nearly an hour to douse the blaze, which spread rapidly through the apartment at 2:41 a.m., said district Chief David Olmstead.
