Hey everyone,

Just wondering what opportunities are out there for someone who graduates from Seneca's Fire Protection Engineering Technician/Technology program. Also, are there alot of jobs out there for these graduates?

Thanks in advance.

The GTA Departments will often hire graduates of the Seneca program. Opportunities are usually posted on the City employment websites or watch the OAFC website or the OMFPOA website. If you live somewhere that you can volunteer, get started on your FPO Diploma at the OFC as most Departments will require it eventually.

You just missed a few opportunities that were posted in the last few months, hopefully something else will open soon. Good luck :)

Thanks Ladymedic,

But.... besides becoming a Fire Prevention Officer, what else can you do with this diploma?

im not sure how true this is but i was told by Seneca college that once you take the 2 year fire protection technology course you are guaranteed a spot in the Pre-service Firefighter course. that could be something to look into.

The three year program from seneca has nearly a 100% job placement rate after graduation. Their job board in the fire wing is littered with job postings for recent graduates. Most of them are in the states designing spinkler and alarm systems. You can go into the consulting, designing, manufacturing area of the fire suppression systems. U will have no problem finding a job in the field but you need to be willing to relocate for a while because its tough to find a a job in canada because we tend to hire those with experience.

Thanks for all the info cmollison!

I'm not really a fan of moving away from Ontario to get a job. Is there any work here? WIll it be a waste of my time if I'm not willing to relocate?

Thanks!

The (very) few people that I have spoken to who are graduates of the program have all gone to work in the U.S. designing sprinkler systems before returning here for a FPO job. That's not to say everybody has, but everybody I have spoken to, that's the path they took.
