View Full Version : Returning to a Local

Looking for some opinions, I spent 9 years with a Local and left for new faces and places but have returned for family. The local I went to didn't count my service time (for seniority) but I was told they would reinstate service time if a member came back. (Only time served with that local). I have looked through my by-laws and constitution and haven't found anything from that local....anyway is this off base to ask for returning to a place I worked previously as I would pass a few guys on the list?
Thanks!!

Your seniority within a local should stay with you. Taking time away and returning should be the same as if you were switching divisions within a local.

You left, you broke your service. So why should you be given all your time back?
How long were you gone for?

Sorry but I still stand by my last post.I know a couple of places i have worked in my life will give an employee deemed suitable for rehire a 6 month window that if they return they retain all rank and benifits but start at 0 for seniority.
I know it sucks but i guess thems the rules.

Unless you were given a leave of absence, conforming to the collective agreement, then the day you cease to be an employee, is the day your seniority ends. If you are re hired you're a new employee, even if you're brought back at your former classification.

After considering this I have decided not to ask as I agree that I would not approve of this if i was the guy being passed. Thanks for your professional opinions, they are appreciated.
Be safe!
