Is it just me, or is anyone else curious why there is not a mobile version of firehall.com yet.

What purpose would it serve?

I have noticesd that it takes a long time to load pages from traditional sites on mobile devices. It would be more convenient when browsing on the go. I have visited other sites that have mobile versions with the option to switch to the traditional version. Also not everyone has access to a computer all the time but many have mobile devices.

I am out of the 80's..even have a smartphone with a few apps. I guess my point was, what information on here do you need access to 24/7? There is a news feed (interesting but hey, it's already happened), hiring posts (don't get me started on those) and general firefighting discussions????

I lived through the 80's and do remember what it is like to play outside. not all of us are siting in our paents baesment looking for the easy way to gret hired. Hiring forums are only one part of this site. Maybe we would have more discussion on other aspects of the fire service if it were more accessible. There used to be great ideas on this site (and still are) and I just thought that it would be a new way to spread them. There are many other fire related websites that have mobile versions for times when desktop access is not available.
I don't need info on my kids hockey team 24/7 either, but there is a mobile version of their site.

I doubt it....but I see your point.
So in the 4 days that this poll has been up, there are 8 yeas. So an app for each of Windows, iPhone, Android and Crackberry OS's. Ain't gonna happen. Why don't you start a Twitter feed and see how that goes?

Don't have twitter, facebook and don't care if I ever do. don't need fancy apps. just wanted a faster way to get some good info. And you guys wonder why this site has become the way it has. New ideas just get shot down. 100 years of tradition, unimpeaded by progress.

Just trying to be realistic. And I thought that I was putting a sensible solution out there. Maybe your mom could monitor the site and call you if somthing interesting happens....

Its got nothing to do with having "apps" which are also what you get at the keg before your steak. The guys and gals got fed up with the constant stream of hiring crap.....yes it is helpful but slowly becoming a joke.....new odeas that are worthwhile dont get shot down. There are some more senior guys that are far more savvy on a phone/computer than I ever will be so it aint technophobia on their part.

When have I insulted you? I was just making a point and twice you have come back with a smartass comment. I am not saying any one here is a technophobe, I just asked a question and have gotten jumped on. And before you go on about having a backbone and that the fire service is about being able to take a joke, I have been around long enough to get it. Maybe the time is not right for a mobile site. I joined this forum for info and sharing ideas not hiring threads so unless you know me you really shouldn't make assumptions as funny as you think they maybe.
Oh and my mom let me know what you said, and my dad can beat up your dad!

Yeah...I buried my dad last year so he probably could beat him up.

I can't believe we survived without Twitter. Such a fountain of knowledge.

Start with iPhone ( it's the biggest and easiest to do) and see how it goes. I would pay for it, up to $10 it think if was basically the whole site $5 for the forum and mail/messages.
