What's the procedure when 911 is called in error in your area (and the caller hangs up or is disconnected)...
A) if the caller is able to be reached.
B) if the caller is not able to be reached.
I found out this afternoon what happens in Ottawa if the caller can be reached (long story), but I would like to know the answer to B.
Thanks! Sue :)

Yes Police will show. In most cases they will make a 911 hang up call #1 priority unless the business/residence has a history of false 911 hang ups.

In the Quinte area a 911 call with a hangup that only made it as far as the psac is forwarded to the city police comm centre. They can do a ring back to try to get an answer to find out if there is a problem. They do not autmatically send police if they can talk to someone on the other end. If it was a person who hit speed dial and just hangs up to try the number they really wanted they are out of luck. The 911 operator holds their line as long as they want. The ring back is a long continuos ring until answered. If a person can not be reached a police officer is sent to the address as shown in the ANI/ALI .

OPP show regardless.......Although.....when it happened to me I just got our dispatch on the phone and they called their dispatch and I looked like less of an ass by having the boys in blue come knocking.

A hangup usually gets a full response in most cities.I know from some doing some P.R things, kids have been told to do that if they dont know an address or are in fear of thier safety. In Toronto the feeling is its easier to cancel if all is in order, than explain your actions/inaction at an inquest or in court .

The Police here call back right away. If no answer or it sounds like trouble they dispatch right away. Other wise if they get a response and they say all is clear then it over. It could be as simple as some one pressing the wrong button on a programed phone to a child playing with it.

Thanks guys... I had images of a full response roaring up the driveway if LittleWannabe hadn't answered the call back (she was patched through in error while call a friend with 911 in the middle of the number... same thing happened to me a couple of years ago... imagine my surprise when I thought I was ordering Chinese!! hahahaha).
Anyway, she was scared out of her mind and won't use the phone when she's home alone, unless she's calling me! Poor thing... she's a smart kid, I know it was an accident, but she got the talk about emergency numbers and emergency personel...again.... she was pretty quick to finish my sentences (in a non-rude, but knowing way... she also knows to respect her Mom... especially when it's serious, or she gets "the look".. luckily for now that's all it takes).
Thanks again! Sue :)
