A driver at fault in a motor vehicle accident may soon be charged up to $400 for cleanup and traffic control by the Calgary Fire Department. The fees are part of a bylaw being drafted by the city's legal department after an aldermanic committee approved the proposed changes. The new bylaw will come to city council on Nov. 3 for approval. It would allow the fire department to charge fees for a number of non-emergency services such as cleaning up fluid spills from accidents, managing traffic flow around accident sites and responding to false alarms.
