I have been sideways pulled into the issue of getting AED's for our workplace. Our workplace is huge - when classes are in session the amount of people we have onsite would make us the 3rd largest city in Manitoba (if we were a city). Our security constables respond to emergencies including all medical calls. They are always there before external responders.

We are looking at AED's but aren't finding great numbers to support buying them. Today we had 2 doctors come in and present some bleak numbers on saves using the units.

Does anyone have some favorable data for these from a reliable source? Or should we invest the money elsewhere?

Sunnybrook hospital and Toronto EMS did a study a few years ago it proved that PTs that recieved early defibrilation had a better mortality rate than those who only got CPR,it was one of the main deciding factors for the Ontario ministry of health to go ahead with its defib program.I cant remember if it was an opals or independant study,I could probably find out though.

Another thing to look at for stats is cities/workplaces that have PAD programs I know that the city of Toronto have it, as do lots of government buildings airlines etc.

Chain of Survival (http://ww1.heartandstroke.mb.ca/Page.asp?PageID=33&ArticleID=1675&Src=manitoba&From=DYK)

Two good resources, the Heart and Stroke foundation is the best source for AED support and information in Canada.
