Hi all, I am Irish and moving to Canada in July with a work permit.I have been a Fire Fighter for 4 years and am looking to get work in the private sector like oil fields, industrial ect.If any one could give me a company name or number that they would recommend to help me find work it would be greatly appreciated, as for the past few weeks I have been replying to agency adds and getting nowhere.I have no preference on location just looking for a good company that will pay fair money for someone willing to work hard and listen up.Thanks for any help!

there are several companies in se saskatchewan that are looking for people. firemaster, HSE, Wildfire vapour suppession are a few. Safety tickets ie: h2s, confined space, first aid/cpr, Tdg, and others are an asset; but most will give time to get trained. Check saskjobs.ca or newspapers in southeast saskatchewan. Hope this helps.

The Private sector is certainly an interesting environment, some might say cut throat... perhaps just the survival of the fittest. There are new faces appearing in the industry everyday, like anything (restaurants, boutiques, Wine Makers) They will come and go.
Companies have different attitudes towards their employees, some may look after the employee better than others ie, hours of work, distances travelled, family environment.
This business will not always be in your backyard and can take you off anywhere from 1hr to 20 hours of travel from your bedroom.
Money is there so long as you want to work (sit on your Arse and you'll get paid accordingly). There are options out there, comanies like Saskpower at the rafferty and boundary dams have an ERT, Cameco, Potash corp and many other comodities based companies will also have an ERT for consideration.
It's hard to be somewhere else trying to apply to a job you know little about, there is NO glory in the private sector and no one will call you a hero, but you will get paid.
All the best, Safe Travels, use the buddy system, don't walk straight into buildings with pipelines (Ventilate first!) Look after yourself, your partner, and those who work around you
Good Luck
