Hey!
I've heard that bcas has been putting people through Emr training because they are so short of them in he Vancouver island area. Does anyone know more about this? I would love to take advantage of this offer if it is still applicable. I took my Emr course over a year ago, and passed my practical portion of licensing but missed the dead line to take my written. If there was an option for me to work with bcas AND not have to pay to redo my whole course, I'm on it! But I'm asking you lovely people first so that I don't phone bcas and make a fool of myself. ;)
Has anyone heard anything or know any details about this? Any advice for how I can find my way into a position with bcas?

You won't make a fool of yourself for phoning and asking a question that most people don't have an answer to. Things change a lot so who knows. I know that North Island College/ JIBC are putting on a PCP course in Port Alberni this summer. The students do their work experience with the crews in Port, but some do have to go to other places. Give BCAS a call....you don't have to give them all your info, just ask them what the deal is. Good luck.

I know of a few people from the Kootenays that were pre-hired by BCAS and put through EMR on the company dime. So it is certainly possible if there is an acute shortage in your area.

Yes most remote stations are EMR only if you live in a remote area such as Sayward, McNeil, Renfrew some of the islands there are opportunity's to have BCAS pay for your EMR, I work in a rural station and have heard of other rural stations hiring qualified persons off the street including mine so its worth a shot to call HR and ask. Remote stations in R1 are hurting a bit.

Gold River just finished an EMR program, which was payed for by BCAS. two of the people already worked for BCAS out of the GR station, and the rest are new hires that live in GR and will work out of that station. Just a little note about Port Alberni. We have been given the OK to hire a EMR at our station due to not having any PCP wanting to lateral to our station or any PCP in the hiring pool. So if you have Your EMR or PCP and want to come toa busy station put in your lateral.
If your are new to BCAS and either have your EMR or PCP put down Port Alberni as a station you would like to work at. Our last hire was off the street!
