I was wondering if anyone out there has any opinions and/or experience with the fire and safety program at the Justice Institute of B.C.?

Not the fire program specifically. But I have heard nothing but good things about JIBC. They have some really good emergency mangement/IC courses.

In my opinion it's one of the better schools. They have a pretty good screening process. Even if you don't attend I would recommend paying and writing the aptitude exam. It will give you a good idea of what future exams are like and where you stand. They have a 12 week course and in addition to your fire courses you get your FR3 with AED and spinal. Also your AUTO EX. LEVEL 1. It is a pretty strict school from what I have heard.....(good thing) and you will do a lot of running. Many of the instructors are from various lower mainland fire depts. So you will see many different ways of doing things. Many of the guys from my fire dept. recruit class attended the JI and they all seemed to be well trained.

I'm a strong supporter of the College of the Rockies. New school on the block out of cranbrook. You get sometime in the fire hall. Your in Firehall #2 for all 22 weeks and you end out with more certs then the JI. The JI is a great school and i knwo lots of great fire fighters that have gone to school there. But I like the small town feeling you get a College of the Rockies and you get to be a real part of the city. Great place! Feel free to msg me anytime if you want more info on the school.

I'm a little tick that they won't recognize my IFSAC approved fire fighter 1 cert from Alaska. When I first started fire fighting they did seem to take a long time to mark are depts tests and getting are certs out to us sometimes as long as 3 months.

I went to the JI in 1997 and was happy with the program. I had to go to the JI after being hired by Vancouver even though I had completed everything at MESC. It really depends on where you want to work and if you want just the fire training? In MB you get paramedic as well. :)
