Our department is considering to work a true 10 and 14 hours for a shift schedule. Right now we take a week off at a time for vacation .(Sunday to Saturday) Which is better taking the week or taking a block of days.

We work 24/72 but my understandingof 10/14, would not taking taking the block give you 12 days off as opposed to a week?

We used to work 10/14's (now on a 24 hour shift trial) and we choose holidays according to date. We still would look at the shift to see if we were getting the 4 days (which gave us the longest holiday), the 3 nights, or the first or second half of the long shift. The choices are made by seniority, and I honestly am not sure if there is any difference between taking off the week or the block of shifts (wouldn't that essentially be the same thing... maybe I'm missing something, all together possible).
Profire, you would have the week off, but also the original scheduled days off before and after that week... so, yes. :)

We work the 10/14 2d 2n 4 off pattern.
our calander has the 4 on 4 off across the board, and when we choose holidays, we choose full blocks which turn into 12 off. once everyone has chosen their full alotment, we choose any left over days/nights.
