Just wondering what kind of guest speakers everyone brings in for their association meetings or even their own training nights, have to keep the group interested and still have some educational aspect to the topics.

Honda engineer for hybrid cars, lots of salesman, some salesman do courses for auto ex. (Hurst). Random people from the community. (Lions, Community Policing, Neighbourhood Watch, Kiwanis, council members, police officers, ambulance. Mostly sales people, like if they are offering a new technology that no one knows about. (CAFS units) Thats all I can think of.

OPP Drug Unit talking about the dangers of Grow Houses and Clan Labs, OPP Bomb disposal Unit, Fire Marshals Office on new regulations (yes, they CAN make it interesting), Suppliers doing equipment Demos (outside in the summer).
Those have been some of the more memorble ones.

We have had Natural Resources in to do a forrest fire training course, RCMP in for a accident reconstruction awareness course to make members aware not to move any debris around after a car accident,(especially fatal) Emergency Health Services to be familiar with there equipment, Life Flight to do a course on properly assist landing there helicopter night or day, Fire Marshals Office can always be interesting with fire cause determination and investigation, have a speaker in from your province in charge of communications to better understand your local TMR radios, and maybe if things are really boring a speaker from your provincial power company to go over hazards as well as problems associated with long term power loss in your area.
This will be a frequent topic in the future.
Just a few ideas

As well as our monthly meetings, where we seldom have guest speakers, (25 Chiefs and Deputies in a room can usually speak enough thanks :D )we have an annual meeting in February which we invite all the Municipal councillors and CAO's. Feb. is traditionally when they are woking on their budgets, and this is one way to keep Emergency Services up in the front of their decisions. Many topics have been presented over the years, but the one that seemed to do a LOT of good was when the rep from the Municipal Insurance Pool came out to speak about council's liability when it came to operating a Fire Department. Explained that if they were going to do it, they had to do it right. Funding for apparatus, training and equipment was discussed, as was the liabilities involved in not doing it right. Other speakers have been from the Office of the Fire Commissioner explaining the Mutual Aid System, and the difference between MA and fire protection agreements. About every 4 years we do this one. Helps explain stuff to the newly elected councillors. (Municipal elections are every 4 years in MB), speakers from the RCMP about grow ops and meth labs, speakers from the insurance industry (property side and personal side), and speakers from the communications industry.
