I would have posted this on the "Fire Prevention Week" forum. But I wouldn't want to be off topic! I'm REALLY new to this site, and I'm not even in the proffession yet. But I do know a few things about Brothership. Well, I guess Siblingship now. You gotta have the hazing no matter what the topic in these circumstances. The stress would eat ya alive if you didn't.
Me and my bud. We get pissed off at each other, mostly his provoking. And do you know how we solve it in the end? We go rock climbing and put our lives in the others hands. Sometimes I think it's dangerous thinking we lack concentration at that point. But the thing is, every petty problem we have dissolves away at that moment. There is nothing more important that keeping each other safe.
So yeah, music conversations turn to U-2, talk about PPE turns to Denis Leary. Live with it, embrace it. Irish make better FF anyways. And if ya disagree with that, check out the Tees.
And a hint for getting me into this hazing... I'm a young pup... my spelling's horrendous... and I'm incapable of expressing my true deep poetic nature.

One more post, I'm way past 10 mins now. I have to disagree with you on this one. I can see where the hazing is nessicary, that's life. But I come to this site to avoid stress and learn a few things about the service along the way. School is tuff and after spending 4 hours reading Fire Chemistry text books, I look forward to this site. I just can't stress how annoying it is, for example for JG to post a topic, and I wont name names and(RD) has to comment. We all know JG can't spell. But thats also life.

I used to be a huge commenter, 1000 times more than now. But a few people have told me face to face, or with a huge back hand to the side of my head (thanks dad) for the constant analysing of other peoples business. You all know that one person in your life that tells you that you are wrong everyday and that he or she can do it better. Constant critizing isnt nice. I admit I still do it, but not as often. Some of you have let me know that. Thats why I dont like RD's comment's. Some say its all good ribbing, but theres numerous folks on here that have expressed numerous times that its enough. We all can't win the battle, but I think we can tone it down a bit. RD, if ya wanna prove yourself, I think the solution is you and JG have a spelling bee! :) Lets keep the post's going, lets learn new and exciting things about the service and everyone stay safe so we can all visit this site tomorrow.

I hear you loud and clear Micheal13.. you make sense, but you also have to realize that you get what you give... what I mean is, you get out of things how you perceive them to be. Perception is a devious disguise sometimes. I am not a fan of some of the bickering either, you can tell the difference between good natured ribbing and petty name calling, it's easy to see, so I enjopy the ribbing and ignore the rest, it works for me.

As for a stressful life.. man... I'm a single parent, I work full time, my feet hit the pavement running, literally, by 5:10 am each day, then I work, where I will no doubt deal with 6 different people who think they're better than me or smarter than me and I have to allow them to believe that, then I come home, whisk my daughter and I off to kickboxing (me) and Jiu Jitsu (her), or water polo, or drama, come home, make dinner, help her with the rest of her homework, make lunches for the next day, do the laundry and oh, hop on here when I feel like shrugging off one of my responsibilities (tonight it's making lunches.. I'll be one busy lady tomorrow morning) oh and I spend weekends at the Boys and Girls Club talking to and playing with kids who can't read the word dinosaur at the age of ten and then come home to deal with my child who achieves test scores at a grade 11 level, when that's her age, and she would rather play or "be creative" instead of do her work (she is such a dreamer.. but it will likely make her rich and famous and she'll say, "I told you so") ... so yup.. I know stress, live it daily, so when I come here, I DECIDE to enjoy it. I think you hit the nail on the head with the negativity thing.. it's all in how you choose to see it, and if some things just can't be seen in any other light.. you just have to look away! :)

Know what I mean, Vern?!

Sue :)

PS - Okay, so my life is stressful and busy, but I love it!!!

What can i say. I express my opinions openly on here. Michael, im not sure if your a volunteer or professional career firefighter but just in case you have a lack of experience from being around a fulltime and have ambitions to do such..get used to it cause there is all kinds of guys like myself expressing their opinions in the fire dept.

Since I cant pull it Ill write myself"we all know JG cant spell"

I just realized that JG is from Bathurst NB.I had a neighbour from there and I know it is heavily Francophone, that might be it.
If it is we should all cut him some slack. If not, as long as it just a good natured ribbing and he is not hurt by it theres no harm no foul.

Michael there is a huge difference between being nasty and poking fun,I have seen it done by most of us if not here out in the real world.

Ill give you a piece of advice for free, never show your weakness esp.in a firehall. We are all good now I hope!

Well, I'm happy bout all the encouraging comments at the start. But we're still off topic! I really wanted to see the two go at it on here! Kinda like a pit fight...
Ok seriously here. I have the same problems with my buds all the time, and we're all cut from the same fabric. Firefighters, nurses (like my mom) and police, and everybody who sees the nitty gritty dirty part of the world all suffer from the same problem. We exagerate and generalise, and above all we take the petty stuff for granted, why? because it's petty! It's the only way we can survive. How do you justify finding an 11 year old girl covered in blood around her crotch due to a tradition gone wrong? You can't! You are powerless to actually stop those events from taking place, but it is once they take place that we're truely needed. So we can only help what we can. And laugh about what we can't.
Yes, there are some very important threads in here which people are looking to have legitiment questions answered. But the answers are still there are they not? In fact usually it only takes the first few posts for the experienced on here to answer the question. The rest. Is fun... and if ALL that you want is the boring answer... read a manual. I've had all my question answered and a chuckle. win win.

Hey how can I do one of those neat quote things?

alright, i can't help it... i have to post my opinion on this...

i fully agree RD and everyone else on here has every right to post their opinions and criticisms, etc - hey, thats how we learn, right? personally, i find most 'feedback' on here to be really helpful, useful, whatever you want to call it. ... but RD, you can be a little overzealous in the 'sting' department. alright, that's your style of doing things maybe... i respect that, everyone has their own ways... but sometimes it just comes across as plain nasty. we're all on here to better ourselves, in some way or another (relax, have fun, learn stuff, bounce ideas off of others, you name it)... i just think it could be toned down sometimes. i value your opinions on here as a FF... but the validity and value behind your statements, etc. sometimes gets muffled by the wiseass/nasty nature of some of your comments. *shrug* just my 2 cents worth.

just remember... opinions are like a__holes: everybody has one. :)

Hey how can I do one of those neat quote things?

Do you mean underneath your posting?? If you do, then go to UserCP at the top of this page, under Settings and Options, click on Edit Signature. :)

Or if you mean quote something in somebody's post ... just click on the "Quote" icon in their post.

Exactly....some of us just thrive on this sort of thing. In fact, I look forward to Red Devil's digs, just to see if he can do better than me.

Blondie ,Bucket boy, scoop422, and Merlin ,when he's not hiding , all know where I'm coming from, and going.

Now I held down the delete button to get just the part I wanted. Is there another way to get just a sentance out of a full message?

You can either do that or highlight all of the text you would like to remove then press delete, just make sure that you do not remove any of the "[QUOTE]" tags.

You know its out of control, and at its best when no one can say anything without either being tormented or reminded of thier last faux pas!

Is there anything finer in the world,of course other than being a lion tamer.

Instructions to highlight...put your little mouse curser (thats the thing that flows around the screen when you move your mouse, maybe a finger or an arrow)before the word or sentence you want to highlight, left click on your mouse and hold the button down, then slowly stroke through the word or sentance that you want to highlight. Once you get to the end of the word or sentence, take you finger off of the mouse button and what you stroked through should be highlighted in blue. To undo your highlight...just left click anywhere on the screen.

I don't have a mouse. I do have a control on my lap top to move the arrow so maybe that's like the same thing? Anyhow I used it and it worked. YEA!!!! Thankyou once again. This computer thing is really getting fun. Don't know why I never tried it before!

If it is the little button in the middle of the key board that moves the curser...that is the mouse! There should be 2 buttons close to the bottom, those are your right and left mouse buttons that you can click on depending what you want to do.

iamvffI just have a window type box at the bottom. I move my finger on it and the arrow does whatever I want it to. Never realised that was a mouse. Boy the things I learn around here.

I've never had trouble getting smiles. However how do I get a smile at the end of a sentence in the middle of what I'm typing? Wish I could think faster and not have to post twice.
