Hi All,
One question we get asked all the time is where should I go if I want to train to be a firefighter. The answer to this question is often difficult. The most important thing to consider when seeking out a place to receive training is the value to the student and to the employer or potential employer. I just recently read an article published on the Justice Institute of BC’s website that addresses accreditation. I hope this helps in you if and when you are considering training.

I feel you also pay for the quality of the education..... No name schools have no name teachers... for the most part anyway... I find it pays off to go to a school that will offer you good instructors that actually motivate the students than to go to some No frills school

I did my training last year at Algonquin College in Ottawa ON. I have heard about many colleges that offer the course. Although my course was well done(you recieve our CPAT, 3 co-ops and a chance to write the OFM test)It hits the wallet hard. Therefore, I do not recommend it at Algonquin. Humber has a fantastic course that is a fraction of the cost and you are able yo reciveyour DZ licence.

There are many schools around that offer FF 1&2. My suggestion is that you do an online course and then you only have to go do the practical sessions. They are either 2 or 3 weeks out of your life. There are guys getting hired with these courses and it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. You can get into the hiring pool that much faster. I myself went to the states for 8 weeks and would not have missed the experience for the world. Just make sure you volunteer so that you can keep up your skills if you try one of the shorter certifications.

online is great,,but you miss out on the environment and learning from others. FF 1& 2 you could do online, but the practical is what puts it together..you need both..There are colleges all across canada BC, ALb, MB, ONT..check them out..6 - 9 months and you will be very well trained and ont your way... :)
