Earl Emerson has written some great Fire Dept themed mysteries. I've actually chatted with him, He's a Lt. in Seattle in his day job. Nice guy, great books. He has a long running private eye series too

Another interesting book is "Engine Company 42" true stories about FDNY back in the days when New York City had racial problems. I met a crew from Res2cue from Brooklyn many years ago at an extrication competition in Gravenhurst and they verified many of the stories are true even though it's a novel. Written by Dennis Smith a former FDNY fireman who went on to be the editor of Firehouse Magazine.

LOL, you are right, must be getting oldtimers. The 42 was actually my badge number, retired with me after 34 years. I have the book somewhere in my FD memorabilia:D None the less a very interesting book about a very interesting time period.

Geeze I would have thought your badge number was one, I heard Jesus was still a corporal when you came on the job, me, I'm still a young pup, Jesus was a senior D/C when I got here..........
