Well, after skipping a year of recruiting, Ottawa is starting their process again this Spring.

http://www.city.ottawa.on.ca/inside_govt/careers/fire/9_3_en.shtml (sorry, I don't know how to post a link properly anymore.. so if that doesn't work go to www.city.ottawa.on.ca click on living here, then scroll down to fire, follow the leader from there).

They will be placing an ad soon to list the new criteria. I was told they should have the new requirements pretty much finished by the end of next week! I can't wait to see it!
The process is pretty long, apply in May, write in September, CPAT orientation in November(ish) and CPAT in late Jan, early Feb, interview any time after the list is created and they need to put a class through. Once you make it on this list, you will be eligible until December 2007.

Good luck! Sue :)

Sounds like a good opportunity. How many are they looking to hire in the next while or how many are gonna make that list?

On average about 250 - 275 make the list out of about 2500 who write... I found the test much tougher than Markham. They are so far looking to take three classes of 24, so 72. They hired 74 last year, with 12 of those still waiting for their Drill School this fall, they will be adding 11 to that and thats likely it for this year. Its a good process, seems to be quite fair... even though they havent hired me yet!! hahaha! ;)

Ooops... that's better.. math corrected! lol

Uh, Sue. You might either want to edit your post or brush up on your math before the test. :p :D

Wow!!!!! that is a lot of applicants.....Things are done so much differently here in B.C. With the mandatory minimum requirements being different out west we end up with only about 400 - 500 people applying in Vancouver. About 350 wrote the last exam here.

yeah, you can apply right out of high school if you want to here, as long as you have CPR and First Aid, and a DZ by the time of interview... but you won't likely get too far with that. I don't think it's a bad thing that all of these people can apply, sure the money goes back into the city (is that ever really a bad thing) and these people all get the opportunity to see inside the testing process so they know how to apply the next time!
I can tell you who would love to see it be more fine tuned... the head of HR! hahaha! She's a busy lady!
