BARRIERE - It was about a month ago that Paul Martin, the prime-minister-in-waiting, touched down in a helicopter here for a tour of the charred ruins of this fire-ravaged town. The people of Barriere are getting used to seeing politicians drop in for photo-ops and sound bites. Next week, it will be the turn of Gov.-Gen. Adrienne Clarkson to do the grip-and-grin, trailed by reporters and TV cameras. It's all wearing a little thin on homeless forest-fire victims still waiting for promised government disaster assistance before the winter begins.
