It wasn't as sweet a deal as some Truro unionized firefighters were hoping for, but a contract with the town has membership support nonetheless. Truro Firefighters Association local 1627 President Peter Smith said the 10-member union recently voted in favour of the new contract. The contract, which has yet to be considered by town council, is expected to be on the agenda at Monday's monthly meeting. The four-year agreement includes a 14 per cent salary increase over four years. It would be retroactive to the last contract expiry date, Nov. 1, 2001.
