Hey there

I'm doing some research on the hazards of carbon fibre splinters after the componants have been subject to crashes or fires. This has come to light after I met an US Airforce Rescuer who developed a rash and respiratory problems after attending a Blackhawk crash. They believe that the particles came from the rotor blades and other composite parts of the helo. Any documents or case studies would be appreciated.

thanks

You may already have found an answer to your carbon fibre composite health effects posting, but if not, check out the response by John Seibert at:

John provides several links to reputable articles.

The risk is in the "binder" and its decompostion products, and not the carbon fiber itself, though it can at least be a respiratory irritant.
