Firefighters to be paid by end of week

Premier Gordon Campbell says firefighters who battled this summer's wildfires in B.C. should be paid by the end of the week. Last week, the government announced it had freed up $6 million for the payments after being criticized by the NDP for dragging its feet in paying the workers. He says regional districts and local governments could have paid the firefighters themselves if they had wanted instead of waiting for the province to cover the bills.
