I have the full first series burnt off on disk, hilarious stuff!

I must say, the tiny FX channel in the US is responsible for some quality programing. Another of their shows is The Sheild, and they will also be producing a new drama series by Stephen Bochco(Creator of Hill Street Blues, LA Law and NYPD Blue) about American troops in Iraq

When others are running out of a burning building, it's Tommy Gavin and the other members of New York City's Truck Company 62 that are running in. Recently separated from his wife, and still grieving the loss of his cousin, Gavin is fighting fires in his personal life and on the job. He drinks, smokes, gets around, and he's haunted by the ghosts of those who perished in fires, including his cousin. The show is executive produced by Denis Leary and Peter Tolan, the two men responsible for The Job.

I loved Leary in The Job, and I wondered how I'd like him jumping from a cop to a firefighter. The show works, and Leary is great. Leary has more connections to firefighters than cops, and he seems more at home in the role. His cousin (who was also his best friend) died fighting a warehouse blaze in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1999, and Leary has been active with fire departments ever since.

He set up the Leary Firefighters Foundation (http://www.learyfirefighters.org/) to help raise funds for firefighters in Massachusetts and New York.

INTERNATIONAL - NEW YORK, NY - "The back story I've made up," says Daniel Sunjata, who plays womanizing firefighter and single dad Franco Rivera on the series Rescue Me.

"He's a first-generation Puerto Rican, you know, a Nuyorican. Doesn't really speak Spanish. Grew up in a predominantly white neighbourhood with Irish and Italians, so he's had to kind of fit in." Sunjata, 33, makes it a point to empathize with his characters, to get in touch with their emotional life, and to ponder the parallels with his own life.

Like Denis Leary's haunted Tommy Gavin in Rescue Me, which airs on Showcase, Sunjata has tapped into the irreverent complexities of these 9/11 heroes, who are loosely based on real firefighters.

As a television show, Rescue Me is fairly entertaining. It is pretty dark compared to Third Watch or Emergency 51!

Sometimes it hits a little to close to home. I mean, change some of the names and I swear we have had some of the same conversations before!

Thats what I thought. i swear they lifted some of the plots from our Dept. :D

Except for the one where he locates the bad guy, beats him up then sets his apt. on fire. Or was it the one where he cheats playing hockey? Or the one where he has passionate relations with his dead cousin's wife? ...

Hey... what kind of dept. are you running over there?

Hey... just kidding. I liked it but thought it was a bit too much. A fellow FF who likes to hang with FDNY-types says that the show is reviled by the real guys... but to be honest with you, I like any show that deals with firefighting...whether cheesy, real or just plain fantasy. Go figure...

That actually could be more realistic than we realize.Remember it is New York and they do love to steal hood Ornaments.Nothing is sacred in the city so nice they named it twice.

Its also common place if a crew knows a truck is being taken out of service that they will actually steal anything with a manufacturers logo, hall marking or company logo.

I know a well respected autoex instuctor who witnessed a compartment door get chiseled off off a rescue as the new one was being backed into the hall.

Was that the ladder on Staten Island?Suburban stns are an entirly different world off of Manhatten. Some decals maybe different.Dont forget that FDNY just bought a ton of new equipment and some of it was bought cause they needed it like yesterday.Beggars cant be choosers.

Other than some of the "action" sequences being a little tarted up the uniforms, gear and apparatus are all pretty bang on.

Still think its a great show.

This is one of the few TV shows that I follow... I work nights (until I quit my current job and begin my recruit training at the end of oct) so I tend to watch it reeeeaally late tuesday nights (or reeeaaally early wednesday morning) Showcase carries it at 4am-ish mountain time.. I don't think I have ever seen it at a normal human time though.. I think it is still thursdays some time...

Anyway.. I have heard some guys say they hate the show because of the way it depicts firefighters.. what do you all think??

For me I just look at it as another TV show which is entertaining and actually has some witty writing compared to a lot of the drivel on TV these days sure it may have some coarse language and some nudity, but from what I saw it wasn't overly in-your-face about it.. I think a Rap music video is far more vulgar
.... just like the TV cop shows... there are exagerations... it may not be 100% real, but it isn't supposed to be... take it with a grain of salt... (and maybe a shot of tequila and lime too!! :) )

My captain has done 2 rideouts in NYC.He did say that it is definatly a different world. The attitude and skills he witnessed were in his words "astounding".They are so complacent he was saying on the way to a second alarm fire one guy was napping and the other guy kicking back havin a smoke.I have never witnessed it first hand so Ill take his word on it.

If anyone in Ontario ever takes the autoex course or does the flashover at OFM with Ken Jones ask him about NYC hes done a ton of rideouts there.

Long before he was putting out fires, Denis Leary knew how to push hot buttons.

So it's no surprise to Andrea Roth that Rescue Me, the jet-black comedy in which Leary portrays an alcoholic New York City smoke-eater battling his own internal infernos, has cultivated as many fans as detractors.

Eschewing the firefighter cliches found in the likes of Backdraft and Ladder 49 (http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/2005/09/02/1198578.html#), Rescue Me portrays its heroes as haunted by the still-searing memories of 9/11.

"We got a great response (after the first episode) from firemen and their wives, but since then, certain firemen feel their sense of honour has been meddled with," admits Roth, who portrays Leary's ex-wife on the series, airing Tuesdays on Showcase. "But it's TV -- we choose highly dramatic situations. You know, because Ally McBeal (http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/2005/09/02/1198578.html#) wore short skirts they weren't saying all female lawyers wear short skirts. So there are some mixed feelings among firemen."

Actually it is quite like life in a fire station, sure some of it severe. But most of us know guys in the job who have gone through similar experiences.
We are not heroes, we are human beings doing a difficult jobs, Some of us [and some of our families] have more trouble dealing with these experiences then others

Acclaimed New York firefighter drama gets picked up by FX Network for a third season.

Rescue Me lights a three-season fire. Rescue Me, the acclaimed series starring Denis Leary, has been renewed for a third, 13-episode season by the cable network FX. Rescue Me tells the story of Tommy Gavin, a firefighter with Engine 62 in post-9/11 New York. The show follows Gavin and his fellow firefighters through the emotional ups and down of their jobs and personal lives.
Rescue Me, created by Leary and Peter Tolan, is nominated for two Emmys in the Drama Series category: best writing and best directing. The show averages 2.7 million viewers a week, making it one of FX network's highest-rated shows. The finale for season two airs September 13.
FX Network has carved out a niche for itself as a producer of edgy dramas, such as the gritty police drama The Shield and the sardonic plastic surgery show Nip/Tuck, positioning itself as a challenger to HBO. Recently, FX premiered the controversial sitcom Starved, which features the comedic trials and tribulations of a group of people who have eating disorders.

I kind of wish I didn't download the entire 2nd season.. I couldn't watch just 1 episode a week and had the season finished in 4-5 days... now I have that much longer to wait for the new season... I think this season was a lot funnier than the first.. well up to the last 2 or 3 episodes...

arrrrgh.. when does the next season start anyway

TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - Toronto music producer Maggie Blouin jumps into the back seat of a taxi and shuts the door as the driver accelerates away and careens around corners to get the commercial music producer home in time to watch the FX drama "Rescue Me" at 10 p.m.

"He's hit rock bottom -- again," Blouin says of Tommy Gavin, the bad-boy firefighter on "Rescue Me" played by Denis Leary, now exiled to Staten Island after his family left him just as Season 2 of the FX drama is set to premiere on Showcase Television, the Canadian drama channel, in just under an hour.

But there's no clicking of numbers on this taxi's fare box. Blouin is heading home in one of a fleet of Showcase-branded taxis hired by Canadian broadcaster Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. to drive people home, free of charge, before the 10 p.m. airtimes for a weeknight lineup of HBO, Showtime and FX dramas.

"As much as he's despicable, you can't help but love him," Blouin says of Leary's character, as the taxi swerves to pass slower vehicles. "And I love his Irish Catholic guilt," she gushes, glaring neon lights reflecting on her face.

I know that there has been some mention of this in previous threads, but if you haven't already done so, check out the Leary Firefighter's Association website.

In addition to producing, directing, and acting in this awesome show, Denis Leary is also a huge supporter of firefighters, having raised millions of dollars for firefighters in different areas in the United States. Definately gives me a new found respect for the guy!

I found this website about the Firehouse tv show, but it looks like it was only on for October. Hopefully it will be back. I was fortunate to receive a t-shirt from that Engine Company. Has anyone else watched Fire Station (I believe it was called) from Toronto? There was also another similar show from Vancouver quite a few years back that rode with Vancouver Fire Rescue. Maybe one of the boys from out here remembers the name.

To back up my friend from Ottawa,I believe she was in in a combat challenge segement.Since I dont know what she looks like I cant say for certain.

I ran with most of those guys for quite a few years they are a great shift they even fed us lowly medics.

You will also notice that during the opening theme song "come on, come on" that when they pan over the E-One Rad, that the E-One logo will be blacked out. Guess they didn't like the show lol
Tom

I have missed so many episodes now that I may as well watch from the start when the DVD set comes out.... then again, I probably will anyway?

I noticed the logo was missing last night. I figured it was either because E-one pulled their funding of the show (don't laugh, it happens) or something in the back of my mind that said that a lot of FDNY's rigs were Seagraves not E-one. I could be wrong though, but I remember reading an article about specially made Seagrave FDNY units to meet city specs for width on some of the tighter streets.....

As for FIREHOUSE, I only ever got a chance to watch the show a few times, and each time it was the same episode!!! I don't know how many times I can watch TOFD pumping hundreds of gallons of water into the front of the house (and filling the basement) while the camera around the back of the house shows visible flames and no sort of attack what-so-ever (not even an exposure line). Nothing against the Boys from TO, but from watching that episode it didn't look like the proper tactics were used. BTW, in order for the show to survive that have to cut out those 10-12 minute scenes were all a firefighter does is talk to the camera and check the batteries on the AED. Might be interesting to the rest of us, but doesn't sell the average joe-blow TV watching drone at home.

One day someone will put together an EMERGENCY SERVICE CHANNEL (ESTV, oh yeah!!!) with shows like rescue me, firehouse, firestation, third watch, cops, to serve and protect, re-runs of the original Rescue.... 911!, Emergency 51, Paramedics (remember the old TLC show?!?! great show!) Trauma: Life in the ER, NYPD Blue, etc, etc, etc, etc. Why not? Everyone else and their dog has their own TV station. It might actually make paying for the extended tear 3 cable package worth it!

I remember watching some technology documentary on the discovery channel that profiled, if I remember correctly, Pheniox FD and they It shows footage from calls, interviews with firefighters/officers, training videos, schedules, upcoming training, various other reminders such as how to conduct a scene survey, CPR and/or drug protocals, etc, etc. The admin found it was a usefull way to keep everyone in the department informed and to keep things current in their minds, etc.

Cdnbacon - no the show was not called To Serve and Protect, it was something like Emergency Call or something.

Firefighter26 - I agree with you 110% that there should be a channel dedicated to the Emergency Services. They could cover Auto-Ex Challenges, Combat Challenge, etc, etc.

I would be willing to do a study of fire departments and EMS stations across this great country of ours, and put something together, and I am sure FF26 would be willing to join me in this epic adventure

I think you're right 26... FDNY uses Seagraves... which are specially designed for the streets of New York... the grab handles are built into the cab so as to not get broken off while turning corners as per a show on the Discovery Channel... But if you ask me if you're worried about the grab handles worry about the mirrors to... The must extend out the side of the vehicle at least to some point!

NATIONAL - What do you say about a year with no new Sopranos, no more Johnny Carson, Peter Jennings or Star Trek and no CBC for the first two months of the season? You say good riddance and on to 2006. But first, this annual editor-imposed recap:

No show on television goes from laugh-out-loud funny to gut-wrenching sorrow like Rescue Me, Denis Leary's dark comedy about a dysfunctional band of New York City firefighters (Tuesdays at 10 p.m., Showcase). In its second season, the FX drama took bad boy Tommy Gavin (Leary) and spanked him hard for finally trying to beat booze and clean up his act.

Leary, who also co-writes the series, asked the brutally tough question: What if bad things happen right when you finally try to be good? The answer was frightening, funny as hell and the most honest peek into the dark edges of the human condition ever put on television. The only complaint - the short season. Now we have to wait 'til next summer to see which path Tommy chooses - redemption or revenge.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be releasing entire second season of the 2 time Emmy and Golden Globe nominated FX series Rescue Me, which stars Denis Leary, Diane Farr, Michael Lombardi, James McCaffrey and Jack McGee onto DVD. This 4-Disc DVD Set contains all 13 episodes of season two, each presented in 1.78 Anamorphic Widescreen along with English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio tracks. Extras include deleted scenes, gag reel, exclusive features with the cast and filmmaker and more. Rescue Me: The Complete Second Season will be available to own when it hits store shelves May 2, 2006.

Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) is a lifesaver. Whether he is pulling survivors from fiery high-rise infernos or the twisted steel of a subway collision, Gavin takes great pride in leading the heroic but often overwhelmed firefighters of New York City's Truck Company 62. Gavin is also a man drifting between sorrow and anger over a recent separation from his wife (Andrea Roth) and three kids, and recurring memories of comrades and New Yorkers fallen victim.

INTERNATIONAL - TV Land - One of the great joys in life is listening to Denis Leary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denis_Leary)speak (unless the speaking occurs in any kind of Christmas special (http://www.firehall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5410)) so it's disappointing that the second season of Rescue Me arrives without any commentaries. The four-disc Sony release does, however have a couple of things, besides the great show, to recommend it. The best is NUMB3RS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numb3rs) cast member Diane Farr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diane_Farr) interviewing real New York firefighters.

The second season of Denis Leary’s show starts with Leary’s Tommy Gavin losing his family. Actually, it’s more like them losing him – his ex-wife borrowing a big chunk of money and taking off with the kids in the middle of the night. True to form, Tommy bottoms out, slips up on the job and nearly kills a fellow firefighter, drinks himself into a self-destructive frenzy and quits his downtown Manhattan fire hall.

Season two commences with the fallout, the funniest part of it being the sheer tedium of his new Staten Island fire hall, where there’s never a fire and the crew keeps a “cuss jar” to penalize rude language.Source: metronews.ca (http://www.metronews.ca/entertainment_dvd_review.asp?id=16148)

Although it is set in a fire department the show has little to do with the fire service and more to do about the crazy shit going on inside of Dennis Leary's head. His head is not where I want to be. I think I'll stick to Blind Date reruns.

Dark is good. For anyone who has spent anytime in a large emergency service you can certainly identify with the character portrayals. The station goofing around is prolly what makes this job so much fun.A show dealing only with FF would prolly get repetitive after awhile,IMHO.

lol... something has to make my head seem normal!!! hahaha!!

I stop counting the number of times I seen the exact same situation happen to me as it did on the show (mostly the station antics and not the drinking and driving and seeing things...... hmmmm...)... Especially the conversation from early season one about what to call the new guy (new mike).... We had that same conversation litterally a week earlier when yet another mike joined out department!! (and we ended up calling him new mike for a few weeks!).

Unfortunitly, fire service shows usually fall flat on their face.

You've got you CSI type shows (CSI, Numbers, Bones, NCIS, etc), your real crime drama shows (cold case files, crime files, etc), your police drama (NYPD blue, etc) and your real cop drama shows (Cops, To serve and protect, America's Most Wanted), and even shows like ER; but not to many deal with firefighterts. "The Bravest" was good, but didn't stick around to long, same with "Fire Station" (based out of TO I think... I only seen the same 1 episode 6 different times) and of course "Third Watch" (which for anyone who watched the series, turned into a cop drama with firefighting and paramedic supporting characters... then again, about the only thing it was missing was some kind of gay or lesbian relationship.... though, carlos and davis did share an apartment.... hmmmmm).

I still think there should be an emergency services television station strictly for emergency services TV shows!

Bit Torrent sites are where it's at for dowloading episodes of tv shows. BitMeTV.org is great if you can get in. It's members only.
There are other good sites out there too that are more public. Bit Torrent works a little different that P2P. You will first need a bit torrent client installed on your computer to get into bit torrents.

ISP's (at least around here) are actually not concerned about copyright. The issue is bandwith usuage. I know some guys who have gotten these letters from their dsl providers but the concern, and what raises the red flags, is bandwith consumption. As long as you don't go to nuts you should be fine.

And by the way... last nights episode was great. But what was up with the Probie on the couch at the end? Looked pretty messed up to me...

Mentioning the protocol (bitorrent) maybe isn't a big deal. However we aren't about to link to those sites. Regardless of what your stance is regarding the sharing of media, the truth is those sites are getting in some serious $%#@ right now and we don't really want to get dragged through. Is it bull that single mothers who never used a computer get slapped with lawsuits in the tens of thousands range because their son's friend downloaded some music? YES! Does that sort of thing actually happen? You bet, they will try to make an example out of anyone. Is Firehall.com going to flex their copyfight muscle over the sharing of media and take on the music/movie industry.... hell no :D.

Besides, if you donwload movies the bad guys win;)

Television's anti-heroes are despicable characters. The Sopranos' mob boss Tony Soprano is a murderer and House's brilliant diagnostician Gregory House is an egotistical and unsympathetic doctor. But audiences root for these anti-heroes because they truly believe there is something redeemable in each of these characters. Last week's episode of FX's firefighter drama Rescue Me seems to have missed that point. Co-Creater/writer Peter Tolan has been the subject of intense fan ire for an episode that features New York firefighter Tommy Gavin, played by Denis Leary, who also co-wrote the episode, raping his estranged wife, Janet (Andrea Roth).Source: dose.ca (http://www.dose.ca/toronto/tv/story.html?s_id=Q12PjVU1b2kubTdU2NmiGGt5IFe0%2FYcP VbwoRo1DMbKbz9bdnv6Pjg%3D%3D)

INTERNATIONAL, TV LAND - The prime-time Emmy Awards, the U.S. television industry's equivalent of the Oscars, are starting to look less like one big rerun. Long notorious for recycling the same shows and stars years after year, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is testing a revamped nomination scheme to give newcomers, lower-rated shows and programs from smaller networks a better shot at the major categories... "I think it definitely helped us," said Denis Leary, who scored a best-actor nomination for his role as a conflicted firefighter in the FX cable drama he helped create, "Rescue Me." "We are a very edgy show, and for them to recognize us I think is a recognition of the work and the voting process."

INTERNATIONAL, TV LAND - A recent, disturbing episode of the U.S. cable drama Rescue Me had FX president John Landgraf on the defensive Wednesday. The series, starring Denis Leary as a dysfunctional New York City firefighter, was condemned by one prominent female critic for an episode which aired here two weeks ago. In it Leary's character, Tommy Gavin, raped his estranged wife Janet (Andrea Roth) and grinned about it afterwards... NEW YORK, NY - Fire somehow befits Denis Leary. He plays New York City firefighter Tommy Gavin on Rescue Me, of course, and the promotional photography for this FX drama (shown in Canada on Showcase) depicts him, in character, brazenly engulfed in flames. But Leary is combustible in pretty much everything he does. As a standup comic he's a truth-telling hothead. In films such as The Ref, Wag the Dog and The Thomas Crown Affair, along with the two animated Ice Age movies, he gives searing performances.Source: canada.com (http://www.canada.com/topics/entertainment/story.html?id=c18b2d4a-c378-495d-9e4d-7d35ae1bc30e&k=19942)

Since it was founded six years ago, the Leary Firefighter Foundation has raised $7 million for equipment and training for firefighters in New Orleans, New York, Worcester and Boston, in part through special events like his annual celebrity hockey game. INTERNATIONAL - On Saturday, this newspaper carried a story about the Prime Minister (http://www.firehall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8517), Our Glorious Leader, playing at being a firefighter. He was at an event to open a convention of the International Association of Firefighters, got himself decked out in a firefighter's suit and equipment, and took a hand at wielding a big hose that shot water at a fire. The purpose, apparently, was to get a taste of the firefighter's job at an event organized to "put a human face" on the profession. Indeed. Of course, a skeptic might say the purpose was to have Our Glorious Leader wave a big hose and look terrifically manly for the cameras. As the whole world knows, male firefighters are the most manly of all manly males.

I don't know about that... sure it wasn't quite as shocking as you'ld expect, the only huge shock was the brother thing. But that's because they have a cycle to this... build up the Tommy we like... then destroy that with the Tommy no one can stand. Right now they're in the build up stage.

What was a great dramatic example of that was the resusitation. It wasn't about him reviving the child... it was about him treating others as he'ld like to be treated. He's near death, he doesn't want anyone to give up on him tho. And then the added touch of lighting up the cigarette; classy.

Here's the spoiler thread:

I understand that. What about the guy/gal that had to work last night and planned to watch it on tape today?

I am pretty much caught up with the fact that it is on Canadian telly since I waited to see it like most.Just thought maybe a grace period, for anyone catching up with it over morning coffee.

I think if people don't want to have the show spoiled they wouldn't bother to click on the link pior to watching it. When I tape a game or race, I make sure I don't listen to the news or watch TV lest the winner be mentioned. If you click on the Rescue Me link and haven't seen the episode, i think it's their own fault.

INTERNATIONAL - TV LAND - No matter how f---ed up your life is, it could be worse. You could be Tommy Gavin. Rescue Me returns for a third season (tonight at 11 on Showcase, Cable 31) and, once again, Gavin's world is in flames. Denis Leary and Peter Tolin's harrowing black comedy about a seriously messed-up NYFD firefighter blazes back with a recap of last season's nightmarish finale.Source: edmontonsun.com (http://www.edmontonsun.com/Entertainment/Showbiz/2006/08/29/1783618-sun.html)

Leary's Rescue Me ranks with TV's top dramas: canada.com (http://www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/news/arts/story.html?id=b6ceef3e-abf2-47d9-a97e-d16df3c194f4)

Good point... I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone and hence not looking into any of the spoiler threads.

Wow, back from 2006!

I saw some commercials for it not long ago on the dish. Can't remember which channel, but it's on there somewhere. A&E, Spike, Showcase........ something like that.

The latest and last season of Rescue Me has not started yet. Season 6 ended on Aug 31 of last year. There are going to be 9 episodes in Season 7 which will be the last season and the last episode will be shown on the 10th anniversay of the 9-11 attacks. So the first episode, assuming they are on every week, will be on July 17, 2011 or a date very close to that. You can watch the new season on FX.

IMHO the show jumped the shark a couple of seasons ago.I loved the cast and the general banter between them. The show...not so much.

I still remain a big fan of Leary,Clarke and Adam Ferrara esp the work that teh foundation does.

Anything can be found online if one looks in the right place.
