The blue paint has been peeled off fire trucks and fire hall windows in Longueuil as the city and the union representing its firefighters edge nearer to agreement on a new labour contract. Both sides are confident by Thursday the city's 285 firefighters will accept a new deal that will address the harmonization of eight separate contracts and address salary and staffing issues. Union president Dénis Dufresne said the executive has taken a look at the mediator's proposal and will recommend to its members they take the deal.
