MELFORT, SK - A brand new emergency services school is coming to Melfort, bringing at least 10 new jobs into the community.

The Saskatchewan Protective Services Academy is aimed at helping First Nations people enter the workforce by offering training in firefighting and emergency medical services fields. The six-month, professional program is grounded in industry know-how and not meant to be an alternative to corrections says coordinator Marc Shayer.

Kinistin Saulteaux Nation, English River, Piapot, and Yellow Quill, and other First Nations communities came up with the seed money for the school. Chief Felix Thomas of Kinistin Saulteaux Nation spearheaded the drive to locate the academy here.
