To say firefighters in Montreal have a public-relations problem would be putting the matter mildly. Two men on the roof of a three-storey building in St. Henri burned to death on Sunday as 120 of Montreal's finest - according to the testimony of all available witnesses - did too little to try to save them. There are independent reports that some firefighters declared the desperate men to be "already dead" while they cried for help.
