BARRIERE -- Al Kirkwood, Barriere's fire chief, told a review commission yesterday it took him two full days to get help with this summer's forest fires from other B.C. firefighting crews. He blamed the devastation, in part, on a lack of clear leadership. Kirkwood told Firestorm 2003 Review Team commissioner Gary Filmon he made numerous calls to gather trucks and men to fight B.C.'s biggest blaze of the year, but kept getting passed off to other people and other offices.
