a shortage of staff the fire department blames on hunting season. Fort St. John fire chief Jeff Lambert said that with guys off, guys out of town, guys hunting, we were just short, but stopped short of saying it caused delays in putting down Saturday's blaze. We showed up initially with one guy and people trickle in, that's just a system we run, he said, noting that eventually 12 Fort St. John firefighters and both chiefs arrived at the scene.
