A fire in a multi-storey building in the 300 block of West Pender totally gridlocked traffic in Vancouver's downtown core. A four-alarm blaze that destroyed a $1.4 million landmark building in downtown Vancouver was caused by the most mundane of incidents: a pot of hot oil and popcorn caught fire. By late afternoon Thursday, the Victory Block building that during the 1920s housed one of Vancouver's many dance halls, had to be demolished.
